Do you have your teslacam set to “honk horn to save”? Wondered if that was the reason he brake-checked you. If there’s any chance of confrontation I use the “save that” voice command.

Having test driven a few utes lately, I wonder if the higher, more commanding, seating position works on people’s psyche and makes them drive more aggressively?

Same goes for “professional” drivers of large vehicles like trucks and buses, with the added immunity that the increased size gives them.

What I do notice as a result of driving slightly above the speed limit everywhere, is that a lot of drivers drive at quite a lot over the speed limit and quite often. Who are the main culprits, from my sample size of one driver vs the world? Ute drivers.

Does my head in. I get tailgated, flashed at, beeped at and even swerved at, if I dare to be in their way, while they are desperate to get somewhere in a hurry. Especially where there's roadworks and a temporary reduction in speed limit.

OMG Yes, this is painful. Sign says 30 but everyone is doing 70, almost like they take the sign as the required reduction from 100!

A few days ago I was in a 70 km/h roadworks area, doing 70. Car behind decides that's too slow and overtakes. A couple of minutes later is a 110 area (two lanes in each direction), and I came back up behind the same car, which is now doing about 95. Naturally I changed lanes and passed it again.

What in the world were they trying to accomplish by overtaking and then going slowly?

Speeding in road works zones is one of my major bugbears. Road workers work hard in difficult conditions and deserve to go home safe, so failure to obey temporary speed reductions is grossly disrespectful to them.

I prefer to be at the end of the queue when driving through roadworks as I know this behaviour is common. Often roadworks zones don't have any space to pull over, so I try to pull over and let other vehicles past before the start of the roadworks zone if possible.

My big issue is when I slow down to 20kph for school busses and get passed, flashed, horn blaring, etc. I have even had a car pass between me and the bus!

I sometimes have to work in road work zones and the vehicles that roar past without slowing down can be a little unnerving.

I just ignore the tailgaters when I slowdown in road work zones, sometimes even go slower than the limit.

BUT, I do get pi**** off with contractors leaving cones and speed restriction signs up when there is no need for them.

This keeps happening to me in Palmy.

People turning into this petrol station seem to think the right lane is the right lane for turning left into the petrol station.

And why on earth would you put on turn signals before you actually start the turn. Used my horn on this one, and they honked back - because I was the a-hole.

Doesn't look that bad.

1) They've turned right in to the correct (right) lane - https://nzta.govt.nz/roadcode/general-road-code/about-driving/key-driving-skills/using-lanes-correctly/

2) At the entrance to the station, it's already past the merge, so is only 1 lane wide, so not turning from the right hand lane

3) Needed to indicate a bit earlier rather than braking and indicating at the same time - didn't really give 3 seconds before starting the move, and didn't indicate the initial right turn.

If you are going to turn left just down the street, you make sure to get into that left lane early. Positioning yourself in the right lane and having to traverse 2 lanes to make the exit is not the way to go, IMHO.

BTW: From the road code:

"turn into the appropriate lane of the road."

And yes, I can see what the illustration shows.

In this instance, the appropriate lane is the right hand one. Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004:

Important in the event there is other turning traffic requiring

Many drivers (incl the camera vehicle in the posted video) get this one wrong.

Not ideal that the driver of the white car started to brake just prior to the merge point (and prior to indicating).

The White car are required to move as far to the left of the roadway as possible before making the turn, If you exclude the cycle lane (which they are only allowed to enter for the minimal length to compete the maneuver and not more than 50m) they did so, but if you include the cycle lane the should have been another 1.5m left.

you didn't turn correctly into the right lane when you went around the corner, you should have been in the right lane for a moment before confirming it was clear before changing to the left lane, but why would you if it merges so soon?

The other driver did nothing wrong, they could have been closer to the left when they made their manoeuvre and could have used the cycle lane but some people are a bit hesitant to use that

You would because that intersection allows vehicles coming from the opposite direction as the camera car to turn towards the petrol station at the same time, and then merge quickly before the lanes return to one. Reduces the wait time at the intersection as well as light cycles.

I have seen accidents at both this and the intersection by Rosie O'Grady's / Burger King caused by people not turning into the appropriate lane as defined by the Road Code, as opposed to what they felt was appropriate.

Luckily there was noone opposite the camera car turning towards the petrol station at the time.
