you didn't turn correctly into the right lane when you went around the corner, you should have been in the right lane for a moment before confirming it was clear before changing to the left lane, but why would you if it merges so soon?

You would because that intersection allows vehicles coming from the opposite direction as the camera car to turn towards the petrol station at the same time

i suspect that's the case when there is not a dedicated right turning arrow? though still doesnt change the fact you should be in the right land once you have gone round the corner

This one probably illustrates it better for the situation discussed.

Put yourself in the other driver's point of view - they see the camera car in the wrong lane behind them, thinking it may drive up the inside, hence delaying their move to the left.

They should have indicated better - both the right turn and the left turn, but they were in the correct place on the road for what they were doing.

You are waiting at a red light.

You do not move....

And another driver coming opposite to you would turn left into A. But I see lots of people turning into B (none place I see it is Tory St cnr Wakefield St in Wellington). There are even signs to let you know to turn into the correct lanes but lots of people disregard, so you have to be extremely careful when an opposite car is turning too.

From memory the cars turning into lane B in Wakefield St immediately start changing into lane A to get into a car parking area. In the busy period the cars waiting to left turn into the car park force the lane change to get closer and closer to the Tory St intersection. Lane B was often the only lane moving.

"My kid is MORE important than your kid! Get out of my way!"

This morning I observed for the first time, FOUR vehicles queue jumping in front of my place the 200 metre long School queue!

All School droppers themselves! What did they hope to achieve?

Question, so I am not a future muppet :)  I've noticed this situation coming up more and more lately.

I'm doing a u-turn at traffic light intersection, car from side street on my right is wanting to turn left.

We both are on a green turning arrow , I'm doing the u-turn,  I think I have to give way to the other driver because they are on my right, correct?  eg....

NZTA website states: "You are normally allowed to make U-turns, as long as the road is clear in both directions and it is safe to do so. "

In your situation, regardless who legally has the right of way, it can rightfully be assumed that the other driver will expect you to be turning into the road that they are coming out of way, rather than a doing a u-turn, so I'd suggest you should give way until all traffic coming out of that road is clear.

Depending on how busy these roads are, one needs to consider if this is indeed a safe (and sensible) place to do a u-turn.

U turner has to give way to everyone else. This is one thing that trips people up because they think the arrow gives them some rights over the people coming from the other road. Also its not legal in AU unless they allow it which got a friend some hassle when they were over there. I dont think it should be legal here either but it is so meh.

I think they need to put this into the road code... it is really getting more common with the way they are designing roads now. (blocking right hand turns, meaning you need to turn left and do a u-turn somewhere).

I note the drivers doing the left turn sometimes get confused about give way rules in this situation too.

The sheer number of School run lemmings sitting for extended periods with their engines running!
