Scott3:

2wd buyers are likely to be willing to give up features they would normally select to stay under the $80k cap, so little point offering higher spec packages on the 2wd LR model (and the 2wd SR is the entry model so should be bottom trim). Once people have broken the $80k cap to get AWD (with more performance), they are likely to want the extra features that come from the $6k more expensive earth than the air. (like 360 degree view, better seats, passenger power seat, seat & steering wheel heaters).

But the EV6 is going to be a big winner from the rebate cap. Getting the 2wd LR in under the cap (basically the only long range larger SUV to do so) gives it a big advantage over the likes of its stablemate the Ioniq 5.

Based on my drive they either need to find a way to fix the speedo display (the steering wheel often blocks it off) and the dealer said others had commented. And I did find one YT video from Germany having the same complaint. So either do a software fix to move it towards the center or as the YT guy did, use the HUD which is not available on the entry level so make it standard.

What I should have said in reviews from other countries.

That is way cool but hardly practical here :-)

Good news for those waiting for ANCAP certification before signing a contract on an EV6.

Is this true for all NZ versions?

ANCAP’s rating applies to all three versions of the EV6 sold in Australia.

Standard safety equipment includes:

AEB with pedestrian/cyclist/junction assist
Adaptive cruise control with stop/go
Lane-keep assist
Lane Following Assist (active centring)
Blind-spot monitoring
Rear cross-traffic alert
Intelligent speed limit assist
Multi Collision Braking
Front/rear parking sensors
Reversing camera
Tyre pressure monitoring

EV6 GT-Line models add:

Blind Spot View Monitor
3D surround-view cameras
Power child lock

I'm not sure about those particular features, but the ANCAP rating applies to all variants sold in Australia and New Zealand.

ANCAP will note the rare cases when New Zealand variants of a particular vehicle are non compliant with the rating provided.

Well I test drove the GT-Line version and as I was backing out of the dealer driveway, the car suddenly braked when it sensed a car behind me.  That was somewhat startling.  I guess that be Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse?

I've visited a couple of dealers to look at different colours and both have mentioned that the Air model (RWD LR) will be going up in price soon by 2 to 3K meaning it will then be over the maximum 80K for the clean car rebate.

Anyone else heard this?

Yes, that is correct for at least the Air model.

No, but seems plausible.

NZ CPI inflation is running at 6.9%.

And demand for EV's globally has shot up, now that it is clear that the situation in ukraine is not going to be quickly resolved. - This will have put price pressure on EV components.

Also noting general tightness of supply in the auto space, and for EV's especially, the long lockdown impacting tesla's china factory has impacted production of EV's bound for this part of the world.

Does raise a bit of a question though, when should that $80k cap be revised for inflation. Or, not that the clean car program has been rolled out, is a cap no longer fit for purpose (I don't think any brand has been able to deliver an AWD  / 4wd pure EV under that cap).

Batman:

in the other EV thread they say prices are coming down

Different time bases. The ford CEO is talking "in coming year's".

Globally we will need to get over the current production capacity crunch (incl commodities price spike) before that will happen.

Well did another drive of the EV6 yesterday this time drove it home and to see if it would fit in the garage.

It was a tight fit but it went in ok,  the main issue is getting out and turning in our driveway/parking area which is down a rear section. To go back out again was a bit of a challenge with my wife did not want to face. So it looks like this car is now out of the picture. That's disappointing because I really like the car.

Talking to the dealer possibly a good choice might be the new Niro EV which they said might be here for test ride around August September and which seems to be reviewing quite well overseas at the moment.  it takes a lot of design cues from the EV6 but is on a 400 volt platform so will not fast charge as quickly.

just as a theoretical point of discussion we are planning to move from our current house in a year or less but we would hold the car for at least 7 years. So maybe buy the car anyway and endure tricky parking until we move rather than possibly make a compromise in buying a car which isn't quite what I want anyway.

I see the higher spec versions come with "Remote Park" (a copy of the Summon feature that Tesla has) which might help?
