Handsomedan:

Both of those incidents are just incredible from "professional drivers".

The one in the news article with the pedestrian and cyclist could have had such a different (and tragic) outcome.

Sadly, I find professional drivers are the worst. I was told before I moved from AKL to CHCH that the drivers down here are quick, no they aren't, IME, most are slow, and trucks are horrendous at pulling out in front of me, this morning, twice, had to brake from 70 to 30 on a relatively empty road with no traffic behind me, for a truck to hold me up, and cost me probably minutes in the end, compared to the 5 seconds they could have waited. This happens every day without fail on Halswell Junction Road.

I do however find CHCH drivers as ignorant as AKL drivers when it comes to lane discipline, the white lines indicated the shoulder seem to be ignored profusely the country over. It infuriates me following a car that can not drive in the middle of their line and either straddle the cycle lane or shoulder, yet the police next actually "police" that offense.

if you can call *555 or online road watch report, (even better with dash cams) on those vehicles. they often will chase up those drivers and lets say many are well known to police already (at least in my aera, ymmv).

silly season has kicked off well and truly. saw one today, tailgating vehicles, including up the passing lane, weaving over the road including going off the road. typically they are wasted.

Cutting it close.

They're either a race car driver and they're taking the apex at maximum efficiency... or they're looking at their phone.

I vote for: "they're looking at their phone."

Almost another historic moment!

The Peoplemover was parked unattended in the Cycleway for over an hour!

The Warden in the photo (Taken with his permission) arranged for a Tow Truck, it arrived as the occupants returned thus narrowly avoiding a Tow!

Only a $40 ticket issued!🤨

The real question is whether that $40 covers the cost to council for the tow truck. At least it'll hopefully make the driver think twice in the future.

They actually have a Tow Truck with a Warden on the Road several hours per weekday, so no real extra cost.

They tow from Bus Lanes etc throughout the day.

Almost every time Ballet is on at Middleton Grange School, some selfish pr*ck parks like this!

Well the advertising worked - Steel Grating!!! Hopefully the Warden appreciates it too! (Should be on the way!)

it really doesnt help that councils put hydrants in places like that, could put it in the footpath or where the driveway is.

It WAS in the Berm, moved to the Roadway to make room for the Fibre install!

Why they didn't space the Hydrants so that they are not going to be obstructed (Like a driveway entrance) beggars belief!

Common sense has been removed from all CCC Operations!

Who would want a metal hydrant cover in their driveway?

I went for a run in Wellington this morning which took me home via the intersection of Cobham Drive and Evans Bay Parade. I used the pedestrian crossing at the traffic lights, along with three cyclists, and we almost got taken out by a vehicle that ran a red light at considerable speed.

After he crossed the intersection threshold he braked hard to narrowly avoid t-boning another car. He then proceeded to reverse back, almost hitting one of the cyclists who he had almost run over a few seconds earlier.

In hindsight I should have taken the registration number as it probably justifies a complaint to police. The vehicle was an old Toyota Prius and appeared to have a card attached to the dashboard, so I'm guessing this was an Uber driver.

Not IN but in front of, on the roadway.
