Handsomedan:
Both of those incidents are just incredible from "professional drivers".
The one in the news article with the pedestrian and cyclist could have had such a different (and tragic) outcome.
Sadly, I find professional drivers are the worst. I was told before I moved from AKL to CHCH that the drivers down here are quick, no they aren't, IME, most are slow, and trucks are horrendous at pulling out in front of me, this morning, twice, had to brake from 70 to 30 on a relatively empty road with no traffic behind me, for a truck to hold me up, and cost me probably minutes in the end, compared to the 5 seconds they could have waited. This happens every day without fail on Halswell Junction Road.
I do however find CHCH drivers as ignorant as AKL drivers when it comes to lane discipline, the white lines indicated the shoulder seem to be ignored profusely the country over. It infuriates me following a car that can not drive in the middle of their line and either straddle the cycle lane or shoulder, yet the police next actually "police" that offense.
