Witnessed yesterday in Wellington CBD;

Muppet approaches red light at excessive speed as if he is about to bowl straight through it. Meanwhile a pedestrian is crossing on the green pedestrian light. Muppet slams on the brakes just in time to avoid hitting the pedestrian, then angrily honks the horn as if to say to the pedestrian "how dare you stop me from running a red light".

People around me were staring in disbelief.

Worst example of red light running I've ever seen was a few years ago in New Plymouth. They manged to T-bone a police car two in front of me and shunt it into the forecourt of a Mobil petrol station!

Someone with the M syndrome with a souped up car yesterday in The Terrace tunnel behind me keeping a long distance while revving super loudly and then racing up to the back of my car and braking. He did it each time I moved forward…waited, revved and screeched up to the car. Watching him in my rear view and thinking at least if he rear ends it he is at fault and captive n the tunnel. Interesting plate he had for his car Aligatr or spelling close to that.

We have a corner dairy Fish-n-chip shops and a vape shop just up the road.

The number of people who drive their cars onto the wrong side of the road so they dont have to walk is stunning, and they to do a u-turn right near the corner. The number of times I have had to brake because of cars coming at me on the wrong side of the road....

Was parked in Panama Street, a one way street, on Thursday evening around the back of the Intercontinental (for those who know Wellington CBD). As I was getting into my car to go home someone turned left into Panama Street from Customhouse Quay so the wrong way up a one way street. They got as far as the intersection with Featherston Street and must have realised their mistake so turned around in a parking space and came back the correct way. Thankfully it was evening so noone came the other way in that moment.

This is why I look both ways before crossing a one way street.  Being in the right doesn't make it hurt any less.

There's always that guy that missed the last parking space and is reversing madly.

Just had to slam on the brakes to avoid being hit by someone zooming around a blind corner on the wrong side of the road. I'd loved to have dobbed the driver in, but the counterfeit plates would make that difficult...

Last night I was on heading home on the bus, on a narrow Wellington street. An oncoming vehicle pulled over to give the bus enough width to get through. A muppet then tried to overtake the vehicle that had pulled over, narrowing missing a head on collision with the bus.

it still pays to dob them, especially with pics of car. more than likely they are well known to police and it helps them keep tabs on their movements.

Sportscar driving NZ CEO attacks 73 year old driver:

NZHerald: The businessman - who is the director and shareholder of multiple companies - is about 30 years younger than the pensioner. The vehicle he was driving is registered in a relative’s name and worth about $430,000 new. Photos of the 73-year-old’s injuries show numerous scratches and bruises. A doctor’s report says his symptoms included “concussion: forgetfulness, difficulty finding words and amnesia of the incident”.

I think road rage assault is not a driving offence and does not lead to loss of license like a driving offence? It should be.

I've lost count recently of the number of drivers (usually in silver or grey cars) who don't use their lights at dusk, in heavy rain or in some cases at night.
Lit up dashboards, which don't really change from day to night don't help - I'm sure some people think their lights are on, but they just have poor vision. Or they're just idiots...I'm unsure at this stage.

Also - DLR's are not headlights - put your headlights on auto, or just turn the damn things on.

I read that piece this morning too, my only real question is why was it necessary to point out the value of his car and his house, both are completely irrelevant to the story other than to try and paint him as a rich self entitled dickhead who had to be in the wrong. He may very well have been in the wrong (especially assaulting a pensioner), but it had the smell of a smear job.

DLR's are better than nothing, but agree they are not headlights.

I suspect a lot of the problem is actually the auto setting in many, if not most newer cars.  It's great if you have two options for the world, being daylight and nighttime.  Anything in between, either dusk, fog, rain etc, the auto sensor still thinks it's light enough not to need the headlights.

But for those cars without the auto mode, the meat-based switch operator is often less reliable, working on the basis of "I can see, therefore it's all good".
