That is because we are all sick of this BS from the guys that run the bridge with them closing lanes or the bridge entirely because there is a little bit of wind which was never a problem in the past until the truck hit the bridge. Same as most people will disregard the stupid yellow speeds that they put up on the bridge.

So road rules are something we can pick and choose to follow?

The speed signs on the bridge are not valid speed signs, just guides. They dont meet the criteria.

Tauranga drivers again...

FTFY - there are also the standard circular metal and paint signs, which are obviously valid. But you are correct.

Two fold grizzle.

First muppets.  NZTA and their "safety improvements" where they encase a single lane with barriers on both sides and no significant shoulder.  Great until a truck breaks down causing the need to do around 1km of traffic management at 15 minute alternating flows on the opposite side of the road.  Took 45 minutes to get from Sanson to Bulls which is usually 5ish minutes.

Second muppets.  The sheer number of people who seem totally unable to travel at anything more than 75-80kmh in clear conditions and steadfastly refuse to acknowledge anything outside their immediate bubble, holding up vast lines of traffic.

Plus, I understand, because of the traffic stuck in the queue, it was extremely difficult for service vehicles to get to the truck to repair/move it out of the way. I also understand it took some while to get the traffic management in place. What a cluster.

It's almost a daily occurrence where you hear how these "safety improvements" are causing significant issues with respect to the flow of traffic. In some cases drivers are doing dodgy manoeuvres to avoid the inconveniences created. Instead of reducing risk they have increased risk.

In many parts of the country at various times of the year there is a multitude of slower moving agricultural vehicles going from job to job. Where these barriers have been installed there is no where for them to pull over and no where to get past. It's crazy.

I know of some areas where due to public backlash, and I suspect the change of government, proposals to introduce these barriers have been dropped. Thankfully.

Where these barriers are on the verge and on the centreline as in the case above you are trapped if you need to stop for any reason. There's nowhere to pull over to safely change a tyre for example. What planet were the people on who though these were a good idea?

If it was in a rally stage then the rule of "Two toots, two taps, two tons" applies. 😜
I don't mind people doing whatever speed they feel comfortable in the roads, but they need to be aware of others outside their little bubble.
The Ranger doesn't have the boost to be able to zip past at a moments notice like the rally car does. 😜

I was following a car today, which indicated right and didn't turn. It then indicated left and didn't turn. Then a short while later, right again. And left.

It was at this point that I realised the driver was indicating that they were "overtaking" the cars parked on the side of the road!

Technically correct if they had to cross the centre line in order to pass the parked car. Otherwise... 🤔

I was walking down Lambton Quay last Friday and when I got to the corner of Hunter St (across from Starbucks) I saw this small tourism bus driving down Featherston St. The driver then proceeded to do a sharp right turn (check the map for how sharp), the wrong way into a bus only part of Lambton Quay, then going another 50 meters or so before finding a way to switch lanes.

For those who don't know, cars have to get of Lambton Quay two blocks before that point. If he had continued on that side of the street he wouldn't be able to switch lanes because a bit later there's a three-metre wide centre with trees and flowers that goes all the way to Bowen St (with the occasional crossing).

This is why I look both ways before crossing a one way road.

I have lost count of the number of people who just don't look at roundabouts...yesterday, the latest incident was just down from my house, where a woman simply blew through the roundabout from my left as I was circling the said roundabout turning right. I was aware she was coming down the hill towards the roundabout and assumed she'd follow the road rules and common sense and come to a stop, but no - she accelerated and blew through, then when I managed to avoid htting her and beeped at her, she then continued on as if she hadn't seen me - travelling along the next km or so at around 40kmh.
To cap it off, she then ran a red light to go onto the motorway a short time after that. I really should have called *555 but just couldn't be bother with the faff.

I thought I'd replied to this one. No centre line crossing involved.

I had one of those a while ago. I was on the roundabout and someone zoomed in from my left at speed and missed me by only a couple of metres. The small mercy was that the car got off at a different exit to mine, so I didn't have to deal with it further!
