Technofreak:

That would depend on what you were driving before hand when you talk about an underpowered engine. The zippiness is generally limited by tyre performance. On the cars I've owned it's been traction not power that's limited zippiness.

Tyres have very little to do with zippiness lol.

For a new vehicle, at the sub $70k price point it's going to be hard to find a ICE vehicle that feels zippier than an EV. Infact, I'm going to boldly state that it's impossible.

If you want to avoid acceleration and not worry about long range you can always buy an mx-30

Dingbatt:

Obraik: It's pretty hard to get the performance that a Model 3 has for the price it's offered at in an ICE variant.

You mean the 0-60 time that people seem to be obsessed with? I would suggest that unless you are a drag racer or a poser, the off the line acceleration of a vehicle has very little to do with day to day driving and would get old very quickly.

Personally I like how smooth and quiet a drive in an EV is.

That is wildly incorrect. I am neither, but 0-50 speeds are something I consider important in a vehicle I buy. I like being able to accelerate away at intersections for a variety of reasons.

Tell me - Model 3 SR+ 2021 using LFP batteries and Performance using Panasonic?

I'm confused.

Also which one is better? LPF degrades slower but less kwh while the other one is powaaaaar but degrades faster?

I'd rather have more energy density, can travel further. When it degrades there will be a better EV already.

Also any changes to 2022?

Just order the car already and get off the fence 😉

The LFP packs can be charged to 100% everyday without damaging them, the NMC packs (used in the LR and Perf) are best to charge to a max of 90% daily to avoid long term damage. Longevity between the two isn't really going to be all that different - both should see their packs last 20 years+ in the car.

It's unlikely there will be any major changes between the 2021 and 2022 Model 3. There are always minor improvements added over the year though (I think the internal door buttons now have a new symbol on them?)

Eta nov. Plenty of time to think. Might even change the order to a model Y and have another year to think.

That's if you order now. That will push out if you wait until November to order.

Travelling over some very loud and new blue chip on the way to Whangarei during the weekend I wondered how well the Tesla base model does on road noise reduction for this common kiwi scenario.

It should actually be quieter with the 18" wheels vs the 19 or 20s on the LR and Performance versions
