jonathan18: and now Polestar, I think?
Yea the single motor long range is now $86,900 I think
You know for sure the Air RWD LR has already gone up from $78,990 to $86,900?
Yes I was talking about the P2 pricing

She hated the look the first time she saw it. And getting way OT as for handbags I didn't blink an eyelash when she dropped $5K on a Chanel handbag so that is not the reason :-)
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
I presume you're here to get 9k off the govt otherwise I'd go Merc (EQA) or BMW (i4 eDrive40/ iX3) they have their EVs sorted.
what does your wife think of the Peugeot e-208, the Mini, Lexus and (*gulp) Mazda?
they will all score you some cash for that Yves Saint Laurent handbag
Mercedes just put a 'dont drive' order on a million cars due to brake issues...
Nissan Leaf have brake issues too but they don't care, Tesla has phantom braking
My point wasnt about Nissan or tesla it was that those German auto makers have a substantial share of their own problems
droidxt: Well now that the Model Y RWD is here with similar range and better performance, what are people going for?
The Kia does look a lot nicer imo
I'm picking the EV6 LR RWD will have quite a lot more real world range than the Model Y RWD. Has got quite a bit bigger battery. (especially when full loaded, or things that add windage like roof racks are added).
Hyundai / kia seem to come in fairly close to their ratings in the real world, where tesla in general seems to have been above to better optimize for the test cycle, and gets less in the real world.
I think both of the cars are "fast enough"
The model Y does solve the cargo space issue that the EV6 has, which will swing a lot of buyers.
Wrote up some spec differences:
Model Y: - Quicker (6.9s 0-100 vs 7.3s)
- More cargo space (9 bannana boxes in the boot + 1 in the Frunk (vs 8 in the ev6)
- Tech stuff like the built in dashcam's
- Heat pump (I think)
- touch more payload 562kg vs 515kg
- Access to supercharger network
- 6mm more ground clearance
- I assume LFP pack for longer life
- Premium 13 spareker audio in base trim
- HEPA air fltation
- Heated front seats
- Auto dimming side mirrors
- Substantially lighter weight
EV6 Air LR:
- Longer range (528km WLTP3 vs 455km WLTP)
- Better looking (subjective)
- Faster fast charging (800V system)
- Conventional car stuff (i.e. dashboard in front of the steering wheel, comes with key fobs, rear roof that isn't glass)
- 230v power outlet (16Amps max), to run your blenders, microwaves, air compresses etc.
- factory / dealer towbar
- Includes type 2 to type 2 cable, and 10A portable EVSE
- More tire sidewall (235/55R19 vs 255/45 R19)
- Better turning circle (11.6m vs 12.1m)
- No extra cost for colors other than white
- Luggage privacy screen. [edit] china built model y gets this too.
- Can actually test drive one.
- Not built in china.
- Android auto / apple car play

A no-brainer for me to order the MY over an EV 6 on space alone. While I know I could have got the longer range version of the Kia under the $80k limit, there are many features that I'd have missed, eg heated rear seats, glass roof. I give Kia credit for at least providing a decent battery at a level where the rebate applies, but I'm also frustrated by how much one misses out in the lower-spec models. For example, the Y has the 'premium' stereo with some silly number of speakers and a sub, let alone the Tesla-specific tech, as noted in the post above.
Y indeed has a heatpump, and heated rear seats and heated steering wheel
The Model Y also comes with a premium audio system even at the base level. From what I've read, the audio in the Kia isn't great unless you get the very top specced model.
Looking to buy a Tesla? Use my referral link and we both get credits
Looked into this a touch more. The weight difference between EV6 LR RWD and the Model Y RWD is epic.
240kg...
Granted the model Y RWD has a lot less kWh in the battery, but it is also using the less dense LFP battery chemistry.
Cira 10% less weight, despite being the longer, wider & taller car.
Guess time will tell if the Kea has better sound deadening etc, or if telsa was just more efficient with weight in their design.

It's kinda a pity that the EV6 looses out so badly in cargo space.
I think the rear end is the cars worst angle for styling, and also does poorly for fitting stuff in. Even optimizing the boot for low mode would have given a decent win here.
On specification, both the Air EV6, and the base Model Y are extremely well appointed for base models of non luxury cars.
This isn't like the Niro EV, where low and mid trim get halogen headlights, and no trims get a power tailgate.
With the Tesla, most of the obvious omissions, are stuff tesla owners seem happy to accept as unimportant (like key fobs and a conventional dashboard display). And of course carplay / android auto support.
With the EV6 Air, the most obvious omission is the combination of no seat heater & No heat pump. At least put one or the other on an EV...
On both cars you get quite a bit that would be unusual on a base trim car, but I must say the tesla does stand out.:
EV6:
Model Y:
Pitty the $80k cap makes it nonviable for kia to offer the EV6 LR RWD GT-line like they do in aussie, for people who like all the bells and whistles. (But the price jump from Air LR RWD to GT-line LR RWD would be about $18k, which is a lot to spend on bells and whistles).
------
Just closing to say, it is amazing to see how far EV's have come in a decade. Back in 2012, $70 would have brought you a new 24kWh leaf. These days for similar money, you can chose between fairly large SUV's with 400km+ range, and be able to consider if you want a many speaker sound system of 800V fast charging more.
