Last week a friend of mine almost got taken out by a guy who completely ignored a give way sign and went straight through the intersection at 50km/h without even looking.

With some of the more extreme behaviours that people are observing you'd have to assume it's more than just "bad driving". There must be other factors such as drugs, or some other cognitive impairment.

drugs is a big one. especially with what i would call hyper fixation with meth use.

the other is being exhausted. they are literally driving half asleep. happens a lot when people are stressed or busy trying to keep up with life. you often see it when something happens on the road, they do nothing, then they panic. very easy to not see signs and go straight through intersections.

I must admit I've done similar where the spaces are narrow and there's no other parking options, to stop muppets bashing their door against my car.

It's hard to tell whether those is one of those situations. From memory the spaces on The Strand aren't overly generous.

^ I suppose that an inconsiderate parking ticket would be the better evil of suffering a hit on a nice shiny car.

How about those drivers that turn off into a driveway and crawl over the the gutter as if they're driving a super car with 25mm ground clearance?

And campers and caravans? Can they be limited to travelling on the open road between 10 PM and 6 AM?

I would argue that the said parked car doesn't contravene that rule. It is not preventing or being inconsiderate to other road users going about their business. The only way you could possibly invoke that rule would be if there were no other spaces left to park in and even then that would be drawing a long bow IMO.

Best of luck with trying that one.

Just come back from a trip into Auckland. Twice in the drive between Cook St and Victoria Park (1km?), I was at the lights waiting to turn when the car in front of me, going in the same direction, sees the green straight-ahead light came on, ignores the red for the turn they want to make and they just set off.

Must get a dashcam....
