Found some data on Noise.

Bjørn Nyland spread sheet

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1V6ucyFGKWuSQzvI8lMzvvWJHrBS82echMVJH37kwgjE/htmlview

Both on Nokian R3 winter tires:

EV6 RWD: 66.8db at 100km/h

Model Y LR: 69.4db at 100km/h.

Quite a big difference given the exponential scale, and could account for a decent chunk of the extra weight in the EV6.

The model Y is a long way down the list, at 100km/h on winter tires, the i-miev, and e-up are quieter.

Tear down videos will show you how little sound deadening there is in a Model Y. That is probably why there is so many aftermarket products available for the 3/Y. Done for both a weight and cost saving reason.

droidxt: Well now that the Model Y RWD is here with similar range and better performance, what are people going for?

The Kia does look a lot nicer imo

A no-brainer for me to order the MY over an EV 6 on space alone. While I know I could have got the longer range version of the Kia under the $80k limit, there are many features that I'd have missed, eg heated rear seats, glass roof. I give Kia credit for at least providing a decent battery at a level where the rebate applies, but I'm also frustrated by how much one misses out in the lower-spec models. For example, the Y has the 'premium' stereo with some silly number of speakers and a sub, let alone the Tesla-specific tech, as noted in the post above.

I don't care much about baggage space but feature for feature the entry level Y at $79,934 (in blue) has many more features than the entry level EV6 at $72,990 but it's hard to justify the price difference for the extra features in the Y. I will admit the Y is a much nicer looking car than the Model 3 but I really didn't like the screen in the Model 3 and that does not seem to have changed for the Y whereas the screen layout in the EV6 is much easier to read (IMHO)

What part of the screen in the 3 did you not like? The font size?

That it’s not in front of you probably.

That's true. Though I have seen aftermarket accessories that mount a little display in front of the driver connected to the OBD2 port to give you the key items you need to see when you're driving. But also I found the driving position a bit low but for what I've heard the model Y has a much higher driving position.

That’s what I have in my Model 3 (a HUD not a little display). I referenced it in the Model Y thread. Removed any requirement to have a driver’s display for me.

From the quick sit I had in the Y yesterday it very much has a higher, more ‘commanding’ driving position than the 3). Not Mercedes GLE commanding but certainly Ford Escape-ish. But will depend if the styling of the Y appeals. It certainly looks better in the flesh than in photos. Maybe less of “A Boy’s Car” than the EV6?😁

Y should have dimming rear view mirror too

Not having a car key in the last 3 years has been an absolute joy, and the tesla app is great too

I get that, but kind embarking for a fairly large perineum priced SUV to be beaten in this area by economy small hatchbacks like the i-miev.

Surprisingly the Lexus UX 300e does really bad, and that is a luxury car brand.

EV6 RWD is about where i would expect. Louder than the nicer & larger Audi / Merc / BMW / Jaguar EV's, but solidly in the top half of EV's tested for quietness. (similar to a 40kWh leaf, which is a car that is regarded to do quite well acoustically).

Being quieter is quite a bit plus for the EV6 over the model Y, given the extensive use of chip seal in NZ.

Auto Dimming side mirrors are advertised for the Y. No mention of the inside mirror.

On the EV6 is only auto dimming on the interior.

My current SUV has all three auto dimming. Only issue is that the sensor is in the interior mirror, so if you load the boot to the ceiling, you loose auto dimming on side mirrors. Other than that, I love the feature.

Frankly the sides are more important than the center, as basically every car has manual dimming on the center, and both my cars have factory tinted rear windows which takes some of the intensity away from the center mirror anyway.

"Mirror Auto Dim

When certain environmental conditions are met, the rear view mirror and exterior side mirrors dim automatically (for example, in low light conditions or to reduce glare when driving at night). To enable or disable this feature, touch Controls > Mirrors > Mirror Auto Dim."

From the Model Y manual but it could be region specific I guess

Taps into the autopilot computer line between the display and the computer via a jumper socket. Can be rendered useless by a Tesla software update. Can display more info than my HUD though, which gets its info from the OBD port.

Looked up an image on the Tesla NZ page. No manual inside mirror dim tab is viable, so it is likely (especially combines with the above info), that the model Y has auto dim on all three mirrors.
