And, given they've only currently launched a Hutt zone, why would they not provide a pick-up point somewhere closer than Mirimar?!

It'll be interesting to see the distribution of scooters once they launch in Wgtn city, given its topography; even with the Hutt I wonder if anyone will bother trying to use them in the western hill suburbs...

Yep, that $1 solely covers the 'flag fall' of renting one, so I guess it's more useful for really short trips where that flag fall is a higher proportion of the overall trip.

I posted my promo code earlier in this thread; it's still getting used, and I now have 114 active promos - all of them for that $1!

Before the Geekzone pizza in CHC we were given $100 credit (10 x $10). My ride from the CHC airport to CBD cost me $1.40 ($11.40 - $10 credit).

Interesting, Maybe the codes I received were $3 in $1 lots. Seemed deceiving when used. I also had $10 codes but they just listed in lots of $1 values.

Well, that was a very general post!

There's been a good amount of discussion on this earlier in the thread. If you're talking about scooters in the Wellington region, then I think there'll be good-sized pockets where their use will be fine and not limited by the terrain. Eg, they'll be fantastic along the waterfront such as getting from the railway station to Te Papa; or in Petone; or in LH CBD...

Where they won't be so useful is between many of these areas, eg exiting Wellington City CBD, so I can't imagine they'll get used for very long rides. And they'll be pretty much useless in the hilly suburbs. But I can totally get that this won't rule out their role in these other spots...

OMFG, this and the earlier article on the NZH site have really irritated me.

Here's a woman who apparently got pissed then thought it was a smart idea to use a Lime scooter to get home including riding it down - in her own words -
"a really steep, hilly road", and then has the temerity to essentially blame Lime for letting her do this. Seriously?

While the Stuff article includes more content where she appears at some level to take responsibility - '"I'm a grown woman and I'm not trying to blame the scooter for what happened when I was under the influence of alcohol," she said. "I got on the scooter on my own free will as I have half a dozen times before...' - but essentially the overall message I read from this is Lime should put in restrictions that would stop such situations occurring.

I don't usually buy the whole accusations of 'nanny state' and over-regulation, but here I think she's completely out of line.

I noticed she didn't think ACC and taxpayers who will be funding her hospital stay and recouperation. Luckily she didn't live in the US - even with medical cover you'd have policies that would refuse to pay because you were impaired by alcohol.

Why has nobody suggested this for riding downhill in wheelie bins and shopping carts? They get used quite often by intoxicated people on steep hills. And there has been at least one death.

The requirement to wear a helmet makes a lot of sense for scooters and skateboards. I have been told that helmets are meant to be used on the road anyway but except for longboards I haven't seen this.

But even if it were regulated for Lime scooters, who is going to carry around a bike helmet so they are better protected after an evening at the pub?

I've seen a lot of people using the Lime scooters after the pubs close. The riders are mainly in shorts and t-shirts/singlets because of the good weather in Wellington region - about 17C at 2am. The front light is very visible but I've yet to notice a rear light.
