I get that, but kind embarking for a fairly large perineum priced SUV ……
You really need to do something about your predictive text 😂

I was thinking of something like this

Taps into the autopilot computer line between the display and the computer via a jumper socket. Can be rendered useless by a Tesla software update. Can display more info than my HUD though, which gets its info from the OBD port.
Fixable by a software update from the display vendor?

Kind of getting a bit off topic for this thread, but yes, as long as the vendor is responsive. There are a few different variations on the hardware, all originating in China, so good luck on support.

Took an standard range EV6 home for the night on friday.
Looking for a replacement for my wifes 2018 VW Tiguan Allspace 4wd. I currently drive a 2021 Skoda Octavia VRS so benchmarking against these.
It was ball night so managed a couple of 30-40 min trips ferrying to and from the venue to try it out.
Really nice car
+ves
Looks great both inside and out. Lovely cabin
Stereo sounded really good
Good mid range pull. Assume the LR will be better
v quiet
adaptive cruise
lots of passenger space.
Big battery on the LR
power outlet under passenger seats - will be good for camping
factory towbar package available - I take a trailer camping so althoug used infrequently it is a must.
Didn't worry about range ( and this was the standard version)
-ves ( I probably focus on these too much)
steering bit light. I found it moved a bit in the lane as it was so light.
reversing camera low down - got obscured reversing in the rain - We reverse down our drive in current cars
no rear windscreen wiper
Drivers binnacle not programmable. Why stick the range and speed in the top corners in a small font and devote more real estate to useless info like tyre pressures or a compass. This really annoyed me.
Headlights bit iffy. Drove in heavy rain and the headlights didnt seem to penetrate that well. Not sure if the RWD has standard halogens but they werent great.
boot space v deep but shallow due to the sloping bootline. We have 2 dogs and pack the kitchen sink when going on holiday. Big reduction in space if moving from the tiguan.
Only wired apple carplay. Ive got used to wireless on the skoda. Im sure there is a workaround
Carplay only works on the USB A connector not the USB C connector.
No seat warmers - Had to use mine a lot last week.
Parking brake - had to remember to put it on each time I put the car in park. Our drive is on a slope. Our VAG cars both put the parking brake on automatically.
However if I didn't see that the model Y just became available today I would probably have put down a deposit on one this week. Now I have to go and look at the model y and start researching again haha!
Noticed this non standard looking V2L adapter on TradeMe https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/parts-other-makes/electrics/listing/3637925538
Not sure what the price of the genuine one is.
I think a genuine one is around $900 - I read someone in the UK made their own and there's not much to them; the plug, a couple of diodes plus wiring.
That has to be a pretty small market...

And would get smaller one DIYer at a time if you get it wrong!

I was dead keen on the EV6 but powers above me nixed it. I am now looking at the Kia Niro EV. Looks good but not sure about pricing here in NZ.
From this video this is the UK pricing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4Z8gu0B9kk
If we just do exchange rate conversions then it's possible all models as sold in the UK would be eligible for the discount here. I just hope the entry model or at least the model 3 compares with the entry level EV6.

I was hoping that the Niro would be a lot cheaper than the EV6 given that the latter is a bigger vehicle and is based on a proper EV platform.
When I took the EV6 for a test drive, having gone to the dealer to ask about the new Niro, the saleman’s comment was that he expected the EV6 to be their halo vehicle (taking over from the Stinger) with the Niro sitting just below it price-wise. And then descending down for the PHEV and hybrid Niros. That was guesswork a bit, but I think the demos of the new Niro are due in the next couple of months?
When I asked at Hyundai about the Kona vs the Ioniq5 prices the answer was “No, because they are different customer bases”. So the Kona is just as expensive as the Ioniq5.

When I was testing the EV6 I also asked about the Niro. He said he thought some would be coming in Aug/Sep but wasn't sure if it was just demo models or cars to sell. Then he said usually demos are the top of the range (as was the EV6 I tested) but the cars to sell are usually entry or one above.
Since they are on a different platform than the EV6/Ioniq 5 (400V versus 800V) and there are versions for ICE, PHEV and EV, I would hope they are cheaper but who knows.

Interestingly these two reviewers of the Niro EV review the same car (if the plate number is anything to go by)

I guess Kia UK doesn't have many review models.

Pretty standard MO for car companies these days. Invite reviewers/influencers to the event, give them the sales pitch, then send them off one at a time in the car for an hour. The demo is almost invariably the top spec model as well.
Not a fan of the contrasting C pillar I’m afraid. Luckily it’s an option (at least in the UK). Probably won’t be here because the market isn’t big enough to be able to configure a car when ordering (despite having to wait up to 12 months to get it built).

Listening to the videos it appears this is a pre-production car hence the reviewers all have the same car. As for the contrasting C pillar that is not something I would pay extra for so that's not a big deal.
