What I like about model y is much bigger boot for family trips but bit concerned he said his testing was 260km range.

hmm interesting nearly 50% of WLTP. usually 70% is the ballpark.

watching bjorn's videos one would think that Teslas are among the most efficient EVs if not the most efficient.

though one day i did hear Bjorn explain his data is driving power consumption only, not inclusive of power usage of AC etc

One person's reporting of his one-off experience with a car does not provide anything meaningful or generalisabile, especially when that person is a car reviewer...

I'm assuming that real-world data for this particular model is scarce given it's sold in few markets (I think HK also has a RWD Y available, but don't think any other places?), so it'll take a while for this to come through once deliveries start in AU and NZ. I'm assuming the closest comparison is the entry-level M3; this site suggests to expect 380km range, so obviously the MY will be something south of this. But it's also interesting to see the different range based on conditions.

I think you'd have to go some to get it that low

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KP8x2pEcbo

With the standard range ~60kWh battery
Range at 150 Wh/km = 400km
Range at 175 Wh/km = 350km
Range at 200 Wh/km = 300km

I expect around 175wh/km for usual NZ driving

the Wh/km is only for the motor driving the wheels, does not include other gizmos like AC, lights,

not sure if includes regen, i think it includes regen

Teslas count all the energy use afik, but AC wont use much ( typical 600w-1kw draw, so at 100kph that would be an extra 10wh/km) , lights are all LED and nothing. The mcu draws about 150w I think - tho the ryzen draws more dont know abut that mebe 300-400?

Tesla Apple CarPlay Hack Updated to Work With Any Tesla Model

I thought all you Tesla and Apple owners would be interested in this article. 😀

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I would love to have Apple CarPlay when I get the Tesla, but that looks like too much work and a "solution" that would be very finicky. And what is the upside, really? The services available in the Tesla is the same as the ones I use on my phone.

Android user here, but I have found no need to use Android Auto in my Model 3. Still have access to Google Assistant (and Bixby for that matter) and the Tesla system provides all I need.

As someone who has never had a car with CarPlay (I went from a old car that didn't even have Bluetooth audio to a Model 3), I don't feel like I'm missing out. I already used Spotify and find the built in Spotify player is fine, especially now that they added the feature that ties Spotify accounts to driver profiles. In cases where it's not then using Bluetooth on my phone is easy enough. Tesla adds new services (Tidal being the most recent) from time to time so the need to fallback on Bluetooth audio has reduced.

People in the Tesla Model Y NZ group are reporting that they have gotten VINs assigned this morning.

i have also gotten a VIN today.

Will be interesting to see when the cars arrive in New Zealand. Someone in the group guessed that those getting VINs now will see their cars in early September.

Thanks for the heads-up - I checked about 10 this morning and there was nothing, but after reading this I too have found I've been assigned a VIN.

While my order page still has no delivery timeframes (ie, mine was one in which the Aug-Nov dates dropped off almost immediately after ordering), it now does include payment as the next step, which wasn't there prior (see below). Am I right in assuming I don't need to pay at this point, ie I wait for a specific request for payment? (I hope so as I'm waiting for access to funds in a notice saver account!)

Is there strong evidence for an early Sept delivery, or is that guess work based on the usual gap between assigning and delivery? (So no impact from the Shangai shutdown?)

Looking back at my emails, I got a message about the landing date for my car when it was loaded on the ship. It was available for pick up 2 weeks after that landing date.

edit @jonathan18

You need to have the funds transferred to them 7 days prior to you taking delivery of your vehicle.

I would suggest leaving it to much closer to getting your car. Once you’ve paid it would be much more difficult to pull out (due to change of circumstances etc).

Did you bother finding your VIN prior (and, if so, what was the gap between that and getting the message it was loaded?), or just wait for that message? (And when did they expect/require you to pay for it?) Ta.

I didn’t go hunting for the VIN. Partly because I was oblivious to the fact you could look it up. It was only when the “Get ready for your Model 3” email arrived that I went searching. (This email had the landing date).

If you're in a part of the country outside of Auckland, historically you've needed to pay earlier than you otherwise would as they want payment before the car gets on the transporter to your destination. Once it gets to the destination it can still be a week before you actually get the car while it's processed by the local team (if there is one).

Thanks for the heads-up.

Have Teslas destined for Wellington been transported by road from Akld, as opposed to being dropped off by ship? I'm wanting to avoid the muck-around that can apparently come with 'local' delivery, and so hoped they would be dropped off in Wellington, where it would be way easier for us to pick up than Akld. Just wondering, even if transported on land, if they're taken en masse to Wellington where they're processed - is that how it worked for Wgtn owners? (I get that we're still talking months, but good to know what to expect...)
