I know one person who bought one last month from someone who had it for several months and the chap who runs the Dunedin ev facebook group has had one for a couple of months.

(They are ex uk)

Price? 60k here new.

They were 50k with a couple of thousand miles on them.

Righto, odd that I haven't seen one. To my eye the front styling is very similar to some Honda models at the badge area, perhaps I'm missing some that way?

Not just your eye, front on the current Jazz is a dead ringer for the leaf....

I picked one of these up on Friday, first electric car, definitely a change!

$13k, 70% SOH, which fitted my budget, and my range requirements.

Drove it around for the weekend, and it's not that bad to live with. Bloody ugly, that's for sure, but you can't see the outside when you're driving it!

Interior is nice, i had the dash and the stereo converted to English before I picked it up, so it's nice and simple!

I noted the comment about CHAdeMO connections on forthcoming EVs. Is it really heading towards the market settling on type of DC vehicle connector with that being the EU DC CSS?

Has anyone gone from Auckland to Napier relatively recently? It's a trip I've been meaning to do as a way of taking some time off [hours on the payslips have really built up]. If so anything to watch out for? I've had a fiddle in Plugshare and it looks doable for my 24kWH and setting a range limit of 140km [GOM with the now 11-bars is hovering around 143 atm].

At this point it's probably something I do as/when it's getting warmer so whether that will be a factor. My Kaitaia trip pushed up the battery temps from memory.

If you need to set your range limit to 140km then I think your sphincter factor is going to be very high. You won't get 143km out of it driving on the highways. More like 100-110km, depending on how fast you drive.

Totally agree with this - our Leaf claims a very similar range under normal usage, but real-world distance on the open road is indeed around 100 (noting you'd want something up your sleeve, ie not arriving at the next charger anywhere near 0).

You mention you drove to Kaitaia, which I assume involved open-road driving; did you monitor your energy efficiency on that trip? (By this I mean the km/kWh reading.) That will probably give you a more accurate measure of what you can expect (assuming a similar proportion of hill vs flat, open road vs urban driving etc).

The same methods of driving efficiently apply to EVs as ICE cars, but given the low capacity of Leafs they can make a much more material difference to give you a bit of extra range. One that I've noticed making an impact is sitting in the slipstream of a large truck - amazingly effective.

Personally, I just don't have the patience to do the charger-hopping thing that's required when using a 24kWh Leaf on a long-distance trip - that's why we'll maintain an ICE car until we can afford an EV with decent range - so I admire those who do put this effort in.

Driving up and down hills changes the long distance experience significantly.

It can he nerve wracking to see how fast the percentage battery drops going uphill. I've never managed to get more than 33% regeneration when going down the other side. Going up over the Kilmogg range on north side of dunedin will drain 15% over 8 km.

I've done multiple dunedin to chch or wanaka which are reasonably flat with exception of Kilmogg range mentioned above and the roxburgh to Alexandra segments.

Drive slow 80km . Use leaf spy of similar for first early trips while you get an idea of how much energy you are using. Top up often when able. Accept the stops are being part of the fun analogous to to driving same route in antique car.

PS take an extension cord and some cash in case you need to beg for electrons from a farmer. This has never been an issue for me I just use the chargenet chargers and have been fine.

Oh yes, I set 140 but try to plan each leg to no more than 100km at a time. Sphincter-factor is very much in consideration after a Rotorua trip that I probably could have planned better. I don't have any efficiency data from the Kaitaia trip unfortunately, I've only just now starting logging info [now that I'm using an EVSE that gives kWH consumed] because of people asking me about such details [and costs compared to ICE]. The car reports 7.7kWH per KM and this would probably have been since the first owner. My own figures so far for 7 days from my regular work commutes, give or take a few kms here and there for supermarket side-trips etc, is between 6.4 and 7.05 kWH/km. I do regular shortish motorway as part of this but I'm often hit with heavy traffic situations.

I have my original EVSE in the boot as a spare [standard 3-pin AC plug] as well as a Type-2 to Type-1 cable.

I think you mean KM/KWh?? which would @ 7km/kwh give you 140km from 20KWh
