More feedback on Honda Odyssey, NZ spec
* no reliability issues in 3 years using a 2007 model, 100 km on the odo, 5 speed auto
* does about 11 L/100km around town, 8 L/100km on long trips
* we got it because of the foldaway 3rd row, but have kids car seats filling the middle row. Turns out moving the kids seats is a PITA
* turning circle isn't that great, supermarket carparks can be fun
* 3rd row seats have less padding and legroom, likely an issue for adults & longer trips
* great boot space if 3rd row folded down, not much otherwise
* for all that, suits a family with occasional fly-in visitors well

if you could stretch your budget a little ...

Hyundai Santa Fe 7 seater 2.2lt diesel @145kw (from memory).
7.5ltrs per 100kms. 2007 models onwards... but 2010 onwards slightly better...

I am very impressed with Hyundai at the moment having used a 2013 i30 for the last year. I was a holden man through and through but the economy and power of the German made diesels is awesome.

wife and i are currently looking at santa fe's to replace our falcon family car.

that 2.2 is a raging bull. you can spin all 4 wheels at the traffic lights easy. yeah would love one of those things BUT - the 2 rear seats are really small and you can't even put grocery shopping with the seats up. that's the old shape anyway. they have a new shape. but you can put a house deposit in AKL with the price of one.

Love my Odyssey. It is big, but it has so much room. Can't say I have had any real problems turning/parking.

DamageInc: We have an Honda Odyssey Absolute, excellent family car. I have tall kids and any of them fit in the back two seats, no issues for leg space.

easy to get in and out? no breakdowns/unexpected repairs esp if pricey

Good as gold for us, only ever kids getting into the 3rd row, tall kids heaps of room. Had adults in the 2nd row and they commented on the amount of room.
Our 2nd Honda (needed a bigger car for growing family) and touch wood never had a problem.
Bought it with 133k on the clock and runs like a dream. Around town sweet, open road is great with the cruise control.

i have had a Toyota Ipsum for 3 years and it's never been near a mechanic . I think it looks really nice but i have one with full factory body kit and 18 inch wheels. It is great for transporting kids and it has a huge amount of space in the back with the seats folded down. I have got single beds , ovens and fridges in the back with no problems. It's not great on mileage around town but that could be my lead foot. it's fine on long trips. I would buy another one without hesitation.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

any of the models are chain driven? (I hate changing cambelt always get ripped off!)

Anyway, at this stage I am leaning towards either Wish if 7 seats (light, better fuel economy) or go the whole nine yards with Estima and get a proper people and things mover van loser cruiser thing

I'm looking to get Mitsubishi Delica D:5, good looking car and nice to drive.  The 2WD version comes in around your budget.

Both the new Premacy andMark x zio are chain driven, pretty smart looking with the sport kit/tyre/wheel package.

Ah sliding doors! Now we're talking :D

Is Mazda Premacy reliable? vs Toyota Estima?

PS: easy to talk but I need to sell my X Trail first, easier said than done.
