Quite hard to compare when you look at the price you pay to get the same interior spec etc as others as quite a significant part of the cost is the battery.

Well, how much is it compared to the engine on a 130K Car I wonder?

If I had excessive amounts of money I'd buy a Model S because the acceleration is very fun and it's still a head turner. Nobody bats an eye at a Mercedes, every Tom, Dick and Harry has one.

Otherwise agree, very basic interior and nowhere near as nice as what you'd find in any other $130k car. Really depends what you're buying for but there's probably a reason there still aren't that many Teslas in NZ.

I sold my model S (was located in Sydney), the build quality was pretty average and I got bored with it. I’m currently thinking about a new AM Vantage - not sure what the delivery time is, but it looks nice as a sports/gt type vehicle.

I also don’t like MB. I’m probably (definitely) a car w*****.

I think the only reason it's a head turner is because they are rare. They aren't much to look at I don't think. But even I notice if a Telsa is present.

Having looked at Tesla vehicles closely and sat in them I would never buy one. They definitely do not feel or look like a car over $100,000. The fit and finish is poor. If you look at the doors they often have varying gaps. Boot and bonnet misfit and interiors that are just cheap. If I were to buy a EV SUV the one I would look at is the Jaguar 1-Pace.

Have a test drive in one .. they are hilareous to accelerate down the road!

Once I have pennies saved it'll be a toss up between a Tesla or a Jaguar i-pace (need to try one of those first).

The problem with a Tesla in NZ would be support I would think. I believe there is a service centre in Auckland, are they able to carry out every sort of repair or is the possibility of your car being sent to Aus/US?

There is a youtube channel called Rich Rebuilds. The guy can be a bit annoying at times, but he is pretty technical, has built a couple of scrapped Teslas and built 1 out of 2 (think he got luck and got one Tesla hadn't disabled). He goes over some of the support, and common issues with the Model S.

You also need to consider deprecation. A Tesla will hold its value far better than a Merc. Just look up how much a 10 year old Merc with 150K on the clock is worth. A Corolla that is the same age and done the same distance would be worth more.

Also compare to a Toyota Hilux.

Not sure if it puts price expectation for the Model 3 in perspective, but for US$35k you can buy a new MB CLA 4-matic Sport. List price in NZ for that model is $84,000.

Shocking. I would love to see the justification for that.

"CFRA Research does not believe Tesla will be able to maintain its Model 3 production rate over the short term.

The firm lowered its rating to sell from hold for Tesla shares, citing the stock’s valuation.

Tesla said on Monday that the carmaker reached its one-week production goal of 5,000 Model 3 cars for the last week of the June quarter. But the company fell short on its second-quarter deliveries by posting 40,740 vehicles delivered versus the Wall Street consensus of approximately 51,000.

'After Herculean efforts and albeit a few hours after a self-imposed deadline, Tesla finally achieved its latest goal to reach production of 5,000 Model 3 sedans per week. In the interim, we do not see this production rate as operationally or financially sustainable,' analyst Efraim Levy said in a note to clients Monday.

Oh, I am sure they are able to deal with most any issue in Auckland now.

They used to just have a pop-up store, but now they have one of the biggest Tesla centres anywhere.

I wish Tesla success.

I think Elon may have under estimated some years ago the teething problems.

Candidly he would have done better by building and selling in China, in particular around potential US lawsuits.

In a heartbeat. There is literally nothing else like it.

The upholstery looks fine to me. Gaps? Every car I've ever owned has some funky gaps.

400km, no petrol and an established manufacturer who knows how to put cars together? The I Pace is the first of a new generation, I'd have one in a heartbeat.
