I live in Palmerston North - while its flatness is certainly a contributor to its reputation for being boring, it certainly makes it an ideal place for a scooter that would otherwise struggle with hills!

Mauricio's comments above are a good indicator of how they (don't) deal with decent gradients, hence why they're a great option in flat places like PN or Chch.

Didn’t end up being delivered till 4:30! Left me just enough time before I left work at 5 to set it up. Then I took it home in the car and went around the block a few times before a time trial of my commute. I think it’s going to work great.

So your plan is to use it to commute to work? What's the difference in time between driving and scooting?

I used mine to get to work this morning - it was a little slower than I'd anticipated, but I imagine I'll get faster. Did small amounts of the commute on (quiet) roads, which are smoother than our footpaths (which generally have concrete dips for driveways), but generally even the footpaths were better than I'd feared. PN footpaths are pretty devoid of people on them so there's the opportunity to go a lot faster than in a congested city like Akld, I imagine.

Hooks: I'd not recommend the plastic 3D printed hooks. Despite a warning not to over-tighten the bolt (which is one of the bolts that secures the handlebar stem) and trying carefully not to do so, I must have done exactly that as part-way through a ride I noticed a flex in the handlebars. Personally I think this is a flawed design - an important bolt like that needs to be done up well, and I'm not going to risk not doing so to have a hook! I ended up spending (wasting?!) nearly $20 on one of the aluminium hooks from eBay like this one; decided I was willing to pay good money to avoid the only other option which has clearly been hit by the ugly stick.

You're not in the Defence building at the Hokowhitu lagoon are you @jonathan18? I saw someone whizz past on an electric scooter and was thinking that looked pretty cool :-)

Yep, that was me, @maoriboy - hope I didn't whizz past too fast or close, as I really don't want to be one of those riders! Let me know (say just PM me) anytime if you want a have a go on it.

Both my son and wife insist that I need to get a scooter-appropriate helmet - apparently wearing my bike helmet is not good enough!

Nah all good. I saw you from the safety and comfort of my office (I'm in the old Cafeteria building for now). Wouldn't mind taking a look at one...not sure about a ride though as I'm pretty unco and my work jandals may not offer much protection in the event of a fall hahahaha.

I got one for my wife. Had her waiting excitedly for delivery the past few days only to check the tracking and see it is still waiting for the courier to collect from MiStore. Pretty silly to send a dispatch notice days ahead of any pickup.

My package went on NZ Post's website from a 'not logged in the system' status to 'out for delivery', bypassing anything in between (eg in transit), and sure enough it turned up that day - so hopefully the delay for you may not be as long as it may currently appear (though I assume you got the email on Monday morning like I did, so it must indeed be frustrating).

Agree with the stupidity of the message, though - 'dispatched' does not mean the same as 'a record has been created which at some point we will log an actual item against and then get picked up at a later date'. I've pointed this out to Mi both via phone and email, so hopefully they'll look at the way their emails are worded.

Yeah it was Monday like you, mostly an issue because I told her to wait for it. I didn't want it left at the door or something (never know with couriers these days). In saying that, it arrived this afternoon as I can see the tracking - it suddenly updated as you said, so all good!

Yeah plan to use it to get to work some days when it’s nice weather, about 5/6 minutes by car at the moment. I’m in Napier so it’s quite flat for me, and also the council have been putting nice wide flat pathways/footpaths and within the next couple of months it’ll be 98% nice flat wide paths for my commute.

Interestingly, Container Door is now selling a 'brandless e-scooter', the looks and specs of which seem surprisingly similar to the Mi 365; best bit is the price - they're selling it for $399. https://www.containerdoor.com/nz/product_listings/brandless-e-scooter-1

Searching for that specific model number comes up with this: https://www.xiaomitoday.com/h-8501-electric-scooter-with-7-5ah-battery/ which indicates it's different from the standard scooter (stating it's a bit heavier).

But apart from the weight I can't see anything different when comparing the specs with the model sold by the NZ Mi store (https://www.mi.com/global/mi-electric-scooter/specs/).

If it is an otherwise identical product then $399 is a damn good price, as long as buyers don't mind waiting until the end of Feb for delivery (a month longer than if ordering from the NZ Mi store).

I saw that too. I already have an M365. The Container Door one is definitely different around the handle bars and the top speed quoted is slower.

I too was tempted by the containerdoor clone, but of course it's cheaper for a reason.  Knockoffs mostly save money by cheaping out on the battery and motor - I saw a review on one where they said the range had dropped to 8km quite quickly, and although both the m365 and the clone list their motors as being 250W, the m365 one is a 500w motor running at 250W, whereas the clones are 250W flat-out which does make a difference.

Ah, so your sense is this is simply a knock-off, as opposed to being a Mi scooter in  drag?

If so, it's interesting that the product number of this Container Door scooter links to a Xiaomi website.

Personally, I'm happy with the $600 I paid for mine, and think they're worth the standard retail of $700 - I'm also not that keen on having to wait nearly three months for a product to turn up...

Definitely - in fact it's almost a clone of a clone, as the top control panel looks the same as the "Alfawise M1" mi365 copy, but at least the Alfawise has more refined cable-management to the handlebars.

I too bought an m365 on sale, but given the enjoyment my son gets out of it I was tempted to get a second one when I saw the containerdoor listing, but I suspect the quality drop would soon eclipse the savings.
