jonathan18:

Thanks for the feedback.

@turtleattacks: did you have any initial setup problems or did it work straight out of the box?

I have tried removing all connections, rebooting the phone and re-doing the setup, but had the same experience (worked first time then wouldn't reconnect). Good idea on the software front, but there doesn't seem to be any companion app that I can find.

Do you think it's worth seeing if there's an update to the firmware? I've found a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEre5-h_EVI) that explains the process (much better than the instruction manual does!).

Another option could be to see if I can find another car with wired AA and test it out but don't think I know anyone! (Kinda wish Tesla would provide AA/CP support...)

Absolutely no issues out of the box. I should mention that we use it with Apple Car Play though.

I've also tested it on a Jimny and it worked well also.

I noticed that you can buy the product from Amazon so it's probably worth buying it from Jeff and have a good return policy. (Rather than buying it from some mysterious factory in China)

I made an attempt to log into the device’s web-based interface but couldn’t even see its wireless network on any device (whereas it had been visible prior). I really can’t be bothered with trying to sort this, and as it’s over 15 days since it arrived I can’t submit a request for a refund - nor even find contact details for the AE store I purchased from!

So I’ve done what I should have done from the beginning - ordered an AAWireless unit from Amazon - $143 including delivery. Fingers crossed this works out of the box, but in the two days we’ve had the car I’ve already got frustrated with having to plug the phone in (and have accidentally left my phone in the car), so it’ll be worth it if it works….

@jonathan18, this was an old thread but I'm curious how you got on with the AAWireless unit.  Did it overcome the issues you initilly had with the carlinkkit unit?

I'm looking to get an different knockoff unit (AI Box A133) which looks to have plenty of positive reviews. Maybe the tech has moved on since 2023 however I would not be surprised if my car model is NOT in the "98% of cars that are compatible".

New to this device, so can someone explain why it needs both Bluetooth and Wifi connections active?

I think that the initial handshake is via Bluetooth then it’s passed onto Wifi for the rest.

I had an older Carlinkit, while it worked well the audio quality for Apple Music was noticeably worse. Things may have improved with this in recent years.

AAWireless has an app for easy setup, the carlinkkit had that problem with older gem Ottocast, fixed phone swap. The new Ottocasts use app setup. New AAWireless 2 on Amazon Au for $146 better chip alot faster OS.

I've ordered a 'cheapy' wireless adapter to tyr, but recently set up Android Auto using a cable .... is the response on screen meant to be so slow for each App?

I have found speed is very much dependent on the phone. My older Sony was very laggy, My Samsung S23FE is good, My son's Oppo was very quick. This is all in the same car via cable.

FWIW, I used both cable and wireless adapter to assess AndroidAuto in my car.

Firstly, I came to the conclusion that I didn't need it because my in-car phone and navigation requirements are handled by the car's systems anyway.  The rest of the phone's Apps are just over kill for me 😁

I have a spare wireless adapter available (got extra in case my daughter wanted it) and I'll put in FS shortly .... works fine, btw.
