I don't know how a photograph of a dash can prove deceit or any other intent.

Photos are taking by auction wholesalers who have combined 10s of thousands of cars in their yards.

they are not going to drive around to get the highest GOM, they have better thigns to do.

also These guys are auctioning off to EV dealers from all over the world

I don't know if there is a single EV dealer buying a used Nissan Leaf from Japan that doesn't know about GOM.

I have followed auctions from Japan and they take random pictures of stuff

QUite commonly they show you a picture of 4 tyres in the back of the car for some reason.

the car is not coming to NZ with 4 tyres in the back seat, you'd be lucky if it came with 2 FOB keys

My advice is to a private (and inexperienced) EV buyer in NZ. I stand by my advice on that basis.

The attitude that you seem to be supporting is exactly the situation my advice is directed towards keeping a novice buyer protected from.

Well, it has been nice being a Leaf owner.  But now that I've moved into a motorhome and am parking less than 1km from work, the Leaf is not needed and I don't have room for it either.  I'll be sad to see it go, it has been reliable and incredibly cheap to run for the last 5 years.  Last week I just walked to work (6 minutes), but tomorrow my new e-bike arrives.

My listing is one of the cheapest EVs available on TM: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/nissan/listing/3709464204?bof=T0fEXp4P - this is priced to sell as I've been spending an insane amount of money and I need some more money than I need to continue owning a car.  If anyone knows someone wanting a 24kWh Leaf, especially someone in the Waikato area - tell them to check my listing.

not a single mention of trim level or battery size on the listing.

No pictures of dash or leaf spy info.

IMO you need to try harder.

"This is the middle trim level model with cruise control, heated seats, heated steering wheel, heat pump, decent stereo. The dash is in English and the head unit was swapped to an American one, so also in English."

SoH info is at the bottom of the page.

Your point about battery size and interior pictures is valid though.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take some interior pics today and update the description for battery size.

But every other seller lists X, S or G for trim levels, and the guides all list the same. being able to compare models is helpful.

Stating SoH is fine but its quick and easy to take a picture of it.

A good honest, NZ-centric review of the latest Leaf iteration from Gavin. Interesting to note that the $70K price tag has remained essentially the same despite a much larger battery and more tech items. Pretty much a commentary on the progress of battery price reductions (per kWh capacity) so now that most EVs have acceptable range we should see EV prices decline towards parity with ICEs.

But that is still $70k for what is now archaic technology IRT battery cooling. I’d not touch a new Leaf due to this one issue. (Actually, I’d be very reluctant to replace our own G1 Leaf with another Leaf when the time comes. One bitten, twice shy as they say!)

It’s a model that’s getting fairly old in the tooth now, and Nissan could almost be accused of Mitusbishifying this model (ie, adding in extra sweeteners to an old model to maintain its relevance) - especially given the competition they face from other brands with much newer/reliable battery technology - BYD, MG etc.

You've missed the point I was trying to make. Yes the lack of active thermal battery cooling is still a disadvantage with this latest version, as Gavin alludes to in his video, but for an EV to have gained 2.6x battery capacity plus added range per kWh on top of that and a bunch of extra tech items is a clear example (uncomplicated by battery management improvements) of how much battery prices have reduced over the past 12 years. And of course the biggest contributor to EV price is the battery.

The point is that a Leaf buyer is getting so much more bang for their buck than was the case for the original version and as they have now reached the acceptable range to entice buyers into EVs continuing battery price reductions will see EV prices drop going forward. If they progress into active battery thermal management that will result in upward price pressure but the market expectation is now for actively cooled batteries so that will limit their pricing model to what the market will accept.

Agreed that the new Leaf is much better but it's difficult to see why anyone would pay $12k more than an extended range Atto 3 or $15k more than the top model new ZS EV (when it arrives)

Perhaps because the Chinese brands still have to prove themselves on second hand markets re depreciation.
At least with the Nissan it is clear with battery lifetime etc. Uncertainty also has a price. Just my two cents.

Fair enough.

MG ZS EV owner here. I've had the car 20 months. Driven it almost 29,000km. No issues so far (other than the bad firmware update applied before pick-up, which was corrected).

I have a dongle to look at the battery using Car Scanner. The battery is still 100% SoH.....so I'm happy so far. The range is adequate for me. Opotiki to Auckland with a single 30 minute charging stop in either Waihi or Matamata along the way - depending on the route. Or I can drive Opotiki to Taupo with a 10-15 minute charge at Murupara. I might just make it without charging, but it would be close....and I'd have to go the same route anyway.

Hi, I am purchasing a car so have decided to go electric. After initially looking at a 30kWh Leaf which would be fine for my daily commute we have decided to go for a 40kWh for looks, airbags, better battery life etc.

One I am looking at has the following pictures provided by a local dealer for SOH report and auction paper.

The main thing I am cautious of is the number of high quick chargers vs the number of slow charges. A lot of current cars coming in (for specs I am after) have a higher number of quick chargers than slow. The question, what number is too high? This one at 481 seems not too high to me and worth a look at or should I only look at ones with very low quick charging?

Or should I just ignore charging stats and rely on the dealer coming to the party if SOH drops considerably?

You thoughts on this would be appreciated.

2017 model with 30,432km and 88.71% SOH

I wouldn't worry about this, my leaf (2013) was this way when I got it as well and it's been fine. I think it's common for a Japanese leaf as they didn't/don't have home charging easily available, so you'd expect a high number of fast charges.

As long as the SoH is good enough for your needs, with some margin factored in, that's all I'd personally worry about in terms of battery condition.
