We all need to pay our way. But they had damn well better create an EV class on the schedule because a) your average EV doesn't create anywhere near as much road damage as a 3.5 ton diesel truck, and b) it ought to be priced in such a way as to recognise the carbon costs that ICE vehicles should be incurring by comparison.
I don't think that it's as much about damage to the road as just taking up space on the road... a car takes up almost as much space as a truck, by the time you allow for following distances and such.
Road User charges should be the cost of using the road, not the cost of polluting the environment. Costs of pollution and the effects it has can be added to the fuel cost for ICEVs.
