Current deliveries are all for cars that were built before the production line upgrade AFAIK, so there may be minor changes between these and the next shipment.

NZ deliveries have begun - no parcel shelves, not sure yet if boot trim is the type that can hold the OEM ones..

Yep, looks like first pick-up was today (I imagine deliveries may take a bit longer, though; I was warned to expect to wait up to three weeks).

Tesla is providing a fairly narrow range of pick-up dates - I think I could choose from four days with 1-2 times on those days, none of which really suited... But I shouldn't complain, given it'll be a bit over nine weeks from ordering to pick-up on 17 Aug. Given what other people are waiting for M3s or other brands that's nothing...

I’ve seen three Ys so far out in the wild so far, all with PK____ numberplates. So possibly all from the same bunch. The other similarity being the owners all looking very pleased with themselves!

No red ones though.

The red RWDs will be very rare. Makes the car too expensive to get the clean car rebate.

Our Y got its registration today. Numberplate starts with PLD

Yes. That was my point. You have to really like red to pay $12000 more for it.

Do they take a completed car in another colour and send it out to be repainted?

If you do it aftermarket, most would be likely be wrapped, ...

You would have to strip the existing paint back to get under the clear coat and paint protection to do a decent respray... very $$$

Well, much of the trip to get the car was a disaster, but that wasn’t Tesla’s fault! The handover was pretty minimal but that was probably more due to being late (delayed flight plus Ola drivers cancelling our ride).

As for the car - really happy with it. I think it’s better looking in the flesh, though I still don’t think it’s a good looking car (M3 is just much better proportioned). Totally agree what’s said re delayed power onset, but if it was going to be slow to accelerate at certain speeds I’d rather it was from take-off than higher up the range - luckily, so much power and speed there over-taking is just brilliant (and it’s very easy to reach inappropriate speeds, so care is definitely needed!),

I’m one of those that would argue the ‘firm’ ride accusations levelled at the Y are way over-blown; we drove on a decent range of roads back to PN, and I (and the kids) found it fine. Perhaps this shows how firm my previous car was! Seating position is great, seats are uber-comfortable, and the car doesn’t handle nearly as lumpily as most of the ‘SUV’-type cars I’ve driven.

Still getting used to the screen controls, particularly AC. Silly stuff like one press to turn on the windscreen defogger, but more presses to turn it off (it shows as off but the heater’s still running). Voice recognition is terrible, which is unfortunate as that would help with reducing screen usage.

We got one of the many PKD number plates; it’s therefore been given the name of Picard!

GigaBerlin uses a new updated suspension. I wonder if we are getting that.

@jonathan18

Glad to see you got your new car back to home base (Star Fleet Headquarters?) okay. Because you are already an EV driver what sort of economy did you get on your drive home?

The defogging you referenced, is that on the main HVAC screen or have you put the icon in the ‘task bar’ at the bottom of the screen?

I too have found the voice recognition a mixed bag. It struggles to understand numbers in my NZ accent so the thing I use most is “Increase(Decrease) Fan Speed” because I find the slider on the HVAC screen very difficult to use while driving. It’s a shame they did away with the +/- buttons it used to have.

Today, I parked beside a Y and was standing there comparing it with my 3 when the owner returned. We had a chance to have a chat. We agreed that the 3 was a better looking car, but the Y was far more practical, particularly for a family. I asked him what accessories he had got. He said “none”. Not even a Type 2 cable.

If you get a chance, include a review on the “Test Drive” thread. I haven’t managed to get a test drive yet. May help your fellow GZers with their decisions.

I certainly would get a type 2 cable. While it just came with my car (UK leaf) I find I use it quite often.

My local supermarket has bring your own cable EV port and charging at 7kw while doing the shopping is handy. OK probably not return it on investment but useful peace of mind.

A friend rented a polestar but wasn't able to use the free charging in hamner springs because only came with 3pin wall connector.

Economy-wise, the trip from Akd-PN registered about 160, which is better than I expected as I did drive with some verve a decent amount of the time; I’m sure it could be easily improved significantly, but it does bode well for longer trips.

Yeah, I have the defogging icon showing; one press turns it on, second to max, and the third press says it’s off - but the heater remains on (despite it being off prior to turning on the defogger)! Is that its default behaviour? If so, a bit frustrating - but I think I’ll need to practice my American accent to improve voice recognition so I can turn it off via that means!

While I may have gone OTT with accessories, I reckon there are certainly some essentials - given the recent weather, I’d include all-weather mats in this list. I’ve seen how much water has pooled in the bottom of ours, and I’d have hated to have had all that in the original carpet ones (plus the dirt).
