All the Limes I have seen today seem to have fresh tyres on...maybe they did a bunch of maintenance whilst updating the firmware.

Wellington trial - no Lime:

Licences will be given to locally owned start-up company Flamingo and to Jump, which is owned and operated by Uber.

The two companies were selected following an evaluation of all of the five operators who submitted proposals. The selection process included an independent evaluator.

Wellington Mayor Justin Lester says the trial will help the Council to determine the city’s policy around micro-mobility transport, which includes e-scooters and bike share schemes.

“As in other cities, transport is continuing to evolve. We want to make sure people have easy access to different ways of getting around – whether they’re just travelling across town or commuting to work. The e-scooter trial means we can test the demand, how e-scooters fit in the context of Wellington, and rider behaviour.”

Council officers are developing a code of practice that will guide the practical and safe implementation of the trial, including any restrictions on how and where people can ride. This is being informed by independent advice and will be the subject of a report going back to Councillors next week.

A start date has not yet been decided but is likely to be towards mid-2019 – licences can be issued once the code of practice has been finalised. The trial will initially last six months, but can be extended by 12 months to allow time for consultation and policy engagement.

Councillor Chris Calvi-Freeman, the Council’s Portfolio Leader for Transport Strategy, says a trial gives the Council more control over how e-scooters are rolled out across the city.

“The best chance to manage outcomes is likely to be through the licensing of commercial operators so people are less inclined to buy their own scooter over which we have no control. We’ll be monitoring the trial closely, with a particular focus on pedestrian and user safety.”

Councillors on the City Strategy Committee voted in favour of the trial in February.

The other companies to approach the Council to operate an electric scooter share scheme in Wellington were Blip Scooters, Fuutr, Lime, Onzo, Scoot International, and Goat.

Flamingo and jump are nz companies or wellington? I’d prefer to support local nz rather than overseas. But they need to be on par if they want to play in this space. This is where zoomy falls down compared to Uber

I am surprised Uber got in. They already have a presence in transport around the city, should have given the space to other company.

My wife got a flying tackle from a Lime rider over the weekend. From what I saw, the rider was riding on the road then tried to go to the footpath towards an entrance to a car park. Unfortunately, the gap between the footpath and the road was between 1-2 inches which was too much for the weight and/or the wheels of the scooter. Which resulted to the rider flying and rolled a few times. My wife ended up with scrape elbow and hand. Fortunately no broken bones as far as I can tell. Now my question is, with all these talks about safety. Does anyone know who I need to call to report this incident? I checked the Lime website but nothing there. Should I go straight to the council?

If you are reporting on a poorly designed pavement (not smooth enough), a user error (lack of scooter rider skill or training) or a complaint about the scooter (no suspension, wheels too small), I would day the council is the correct place to go. If you want to change the law, try your MP.

This has happened in multiple cities, most recently Los Angeles, California.

Vandals hack Brisbane Lime scooters to scream offensive messages

Eight Lime scooters have had to be pulled off the streets of Brisbane after vandals hacked the e-scooters' audio system, the Brisbane Times reports.

Footage showing the popular electric scooter screaming multiple different messages, including "I don't like to be ridden", was shared to Twitter this week

Lime Queensland has confirmed the company was actively checking to see if any other scooters had been vandalised.

Lime Queensland public affairs manager Nelson Savanh called the incident "disappointing".

"It's not smart, it's not funny and is akin to changing a ringtone.

"It's disappointing that someone has taken this opportunity to poke fun at members of the community in a hurtful way," Savanh said.

This is not the first time Lime has scooted into trouble in Brisbane, with a glitch appearing last year that saw riders' front wheels suddenly lock up, sending passengers flying over the handlebars and causing serious injuries.

The same glitch appeared in Auckland in February, which led to Auckland Council implementing a temporary ban.

Lime had to agree to a number of conditions before the scooters were deemed safe to ride, including reporting incidents in Auckland within 24 hours.

"We want to understand and learn from those [incidents] and make sure the appropriate actions are put into effect here," Auckland Council chief operating officer Dean Kimpton said in early March.

Just received:

Lime pauses for winter in Hutt Valley

It definitely feels like winter now, so we’ve decided to take a winter break and pause our operations in the Hutt Valley over the colder months.

We want to let you know that our scooters will be available until Monday 17 June and we intend to bring them back as we head into summer. We will be processing refunds for any credit you have on your account after 17 June.

We want to thank you for your support since we started operating here in December. The Hutt Valley is a great partner for Lime. Since we started, you’ve been one of more than 52,000+ riders who have taken more than 225,000+ trips.

Thanks again and we hope to see you soon,

Lime

Something in the back of my mind tells me they won't be coming back...
