1. Do they come in NZ with V2L yet?
2. My wifes prefers red but it appears on the web site we wouldn'y get the govt rebate, can they be purchased less ORC to get it the rebate?
The vehicle must have been purchased for less than $80,000 (New Zealand dollars), including GST and on-road costs (the purchase price).
jonathan18: No chance of getting the red with a rebate, sorry. The only options that you can pick while ensuring you still qualify are selecting one of the other colours OR the white interior. That said, I was pleased enough not to have to get white and still qualify for the rebate!Another option that can be added without impacting on the purchase in terms of CCR is a towbar. We were considering a towbar ($2,800) on a LRSM Polestar2 back in April 2022 and were advised that despite this raising our total purchase price above $80K we would still qualify as the towbar was exempted from the total price in regards to the CCR.
One change Tesla made last year was no longer supplying the standard charger with the car, but if you elect to buy that it doesn't count towards rebate eligibility at least.
And no V2L either - I wasn't aware that any Teslas have this yet. It will be interesting to see if an absence of these kind of features which come as standard on even relatively cheap EVs will impact on sales at all.
We ended up opting for a SRSM so the exercise became academic, and the LRSM price increased in the following months anyway, so no longer an option so far as CCR is concerned.

Imho evenually market forces may drive Tesla to have V2L, Android Auto/Apple Car Play and so on but probably not until sales drop off in larger markets.
Can the Enhanced Auto Pilot and Full Self Driving Capability be added later and for a different owner?

Buy white and get it wrapped. While the paint job from Shanghai is better than that reported from Fremont, my personal observation is it’s not as good as other manufacturers. (I have a red Model 3)

Either is a purchase attached to the car not the then owner, so if the car is sold it goes with the car. In some markets I understand these can be purchased as a subscription.
But, yep, no need to buy at the time of buying the car - really easy to do so via the app at any time afterwards. That is, if you really think it'll be worth it...
Yes we don't require but in theory it adds to the resale value as another owner may want to add those features
on V2L, this article states the model 3 charger (so presumably model Y too) technically supports V2L and suggests this could be added by OTA update at a later date by Tesla (IF they choose too)
That revelation turned out to be incorrect - no Tesla currently has hardware support for V2L/G. The Cybertruck might but I wouldn't expect that vehicle to come to NZ.
Tesla has a product they'd rather sell you for battery storage at home 😉

You're right V2L/G
all - Anyone care to speculate why Tesla won't bring the price down to ensure the red gets the benefit of EV subsidy by dropping the price $788 (on red) as that would sell more units
I also wonder if the new quicksilver and midnight cherry red will come here?

They dont need to. They are selling plenty of cars here now as it is.

Because I'm betting there are few people that will elect NOT to buy an MY simply because they can't get it in red and still receive the rebate.
For some for whom an extra $8.5k is chump change, they'll be willing to pay the red tax (I understand a few have already done so); for the rest, most will be willing to compromise on colour or elect to get it PPFd or similar.
As can be seen by sales, a significant proportion of buyers have elected to go for white, despite all colours other than red being under the rebate threshold. While, for some, this may be an active choice (of preferring white), for many it's not worth the extra cost. Personally, I'm glad I paid the additional sum for blue, but every time I see a Y in MSM I wonder if I made the right call!

The Model Y here is already one of the cheapest in the world, and was also kept cheaper during periods that every other region was receiving price rises. It might be a year or two before supply costs drop enough to get the red paint under the rebate limit.
For now, the new paint colours are Berlin only.

It a bit of a tough one. Tesla in the past has set pricing structures to game subsidise structures elsewhere globally.
As an example in Canada around year 2020, cars with a base price under CAD45,000 were eligible for the subsidy. At the time the base model was well above that, to tesla created a software limited version of the car (significantly shorter range) with a $44,999 price, enabling higher trims to get the subsidy.
But in NZ (unlike many competing brands such as kea, ford etc), Tesla has avoided landing pricing right on the rebate cap. However the fact that the Y SR+ pricing is some of the best in the world, and the recent price drop impacting the 3 much more than the base Y, implied they had previously cut their margins to get the Y under the cap.
Would seem logical for Tesla NZ to offer the red paint for $2000, rather than $2800. Bet they still would make a bigger profit than if a buyer selected white, and had it wrapped, or just chose one of the $1700 colors.
Possible reason's I can think of why they wouldn't
