Here is a great buy here for anyone wanting an amp. I run 2 of these (1 to power components, 1 bridged to run single 8"). Comparable amps new today start at around $130.
I got a couple of those clarion amps from te warewhare when they were clearing them out. Had the small stereo one in the old lantis on some 5x7s in the doors. Made them much punchier and the high pass stopped the distortion from trying to do what they couldn't.
If you can get it for a few bucks do it. Don't buy wiring kits off trademe tho. Many dodgey sellers taking the Mickey with cable gauge and rubbish brittle terminals etc.

I picked up my 2 Clarion APX2121 for $60 ($30 each) brand new. I believe Warehouse were clearing them out at $99.
again all replies appreciated shall have a peek at those amps....im not really up with the play on them how ever,,,,so my basic understanding is amp plugs into head unit...makes speakers go louder..... amp needs a power supply?
What sort of car is it? Google the model and factory speaker size. I'd pull out the old speakers first. Might not be quite 6" (might look it on the outside, but the hole could be smaller) and make sure to measure the depth. I love seeing installs where the window doesn't wind all the way down due to the speakers being an inch deeper than the original :)
Amps require dedicated, large sized wiring and fuses as well as RCA connectors for signal and a control wire from the headunit to turn them on and off. Something like the amps listed probably requires a run of 4AWG (thumb thickness roughly) which is then split into 2 8AWG (pinky thickness roughly) runs to the amps then the amps earth to the chassis. If you want basic sound, buy decent speakers, buy a couple of sheets of the Q-Mat for less road noise and seal up the doors as best as possible. Skip amps and just run them off the headunit unless you are really keen on getting in to car audio. Even just a simple setup with some extra preparation like q-mat etc will give far better results than a factory setup and can sound better than a guy who has just whacked aftermarket speakers and amps into the car with no prep.

You measured right, but not all factory speakers are equal. They might be 6" diameter, but only have a 5.25" sized hole (only a 5.25" replacement will go in) . Safer to measure both. :)
