Well you could argue the Quadrifoglio is a GT car. Front engined, RWD. Versus a (small) rear engined RWD car. Power to weight is a bit different. 280bhp vs 330bhp.
And generally all car brakes are generally rubbish when you take them to a track day and do half a dozen laps on the fly. I know of someone who ruined the calipers and rotors on Aston Martin Carbon Black, with the brake upgrade. The repair cost more than any car I've owned. He went through a set of pads at a track day, and continued into the rotors.

I used to go to Le Mans every summer. The night racing was amazing - as the cars approached the corners and braked hard, you could see the discs glowing like welding torches behind the alloys! I imagine they had carbon or ceramic discs or something that would add bazillions to a road car as an extra.

Bah, some of you wouldnt be able to handle cars on a race track. This dude can and does so often. So he had a crash...whooopie, lotsa people crash on tracks (including seasoned pros).

Thats what tracks are for, testing the car and it's and your abilities in a safe environ.

Nobody gives insurance for this type of track racing, you loose the right as soon as you enter the circuit. (this includes driver training days employers send their staff to in their work cars).

Actually I think driving a car around a track is about the easiest thing you can do in a car. It's considerably wider, smoother, no opposing traffic...
Driving round it quickly on the other hand...

Do you have some knowledge of how well Hosking drives? All I've seen is his mention of top speed rather than lap times.

Earlier in this thread cruxis mentioned some details about track day insurance. There appear to be several companies offering track day training or cruising extensions. There might have been limits on the sum insured but if Hosking was only racing himself he may have been able to get some cover.

Agreed. I have done the complete Le Mans 24 Hours circuit in

A Honda C90 moped
A Ford Transit based camper
A Saab 93 Viggen
A Caterham 7
A Range Rover
A McLaren F1 road road car

It was very easy in all of them (I wasn't driving the last one sadly!) but I doubt we got much over 50kmh apart from odd spurts...too many gendarmes and CRS around.

Just six days previously a column by Hosking was published for the NZ Herald, headlined "Mike Hosking: Road crashes aren't speed-related or tourist-related. It's idiot-related'.

In the article, he wrote: "Since joining Hampton Downs and taking my car round a track at 220kmh I have not crashed, will not crash, and have concluded I am vastly less likely to be in trouble on a track than I am on a road."

It is what it is. He is a broadcaster. Love him or Hate him... if the latter, then simply dont listen or read about him.

And I remind my kids (and myself) all the time. Don't make fun of other people's embarrassments if you don't want the same fate upon you. It's something science will probably never be able to explain. But 'karma' or whatever it gets called ...

But I agree, he's an entertainer, who is continues to entertain with this. It's not supposed to be a political debate or moral debate, we're really here just to take the mickey out of him for who he is and who he will continue to be and to contribute to polarizing sides on just about every issue.

Great idea - but unworkable. As yet another famous for being famous "NZ Celebrity Media Figure", he's an omnipresent blight - even if nobody elsewhere in the world has ever heard of him. He's everywhere - like a bad smell.

Until this article I hadn't read/heard or seen anything from The Hosk in weeks. Even without making an effort avoid him I seemingly have. So it can't be that hard.

I think his detractors need him, so they have someone to detract from. Some people just need someone to beat up on.

Where did I say I wanted to avoid him? Fake news alert - please stop inventing things. :-)

Aside from that, when "famous" (only in NZ) plonkers like Hosking show themselves up for being idiots - no better than the folks they spend their entire lifetime publicly lambasting - they deserve every bit of their own medicine - plus some.
