Hard bloodybhard is it to figure out if the light is yellow you won’t make it through this intersection. In this case he stopped for the second light, but sometimes they carry on even after the cross signal has turned on.

I observe that drivers with a heavily loaded bus (especially those with lots of standing passengers) will make the decision to run through an amber light to avoid braking too hard and causing injury within the bus. As a pax I prefer a smooth run through an amber light than to fall over myself because the driver decided to stop too harshly. Sometimes the amber phase is pretty short so turns red too early but by then the bus's kinetic energy means it's usually not worth stopping the bus for the red.

I would be interesting to know how frequently buses brake to avoid pedestrians risking standing passengers.

I think its got worse since the wcc lowered the speed limit to 30kph giving j-walkers encouragement esp as there's not deterant such as fines

This guy. Didn't take a photo from the front but he also had a plastic bag on the empty seat next to him. On a morning commute.

My wife tells me off for Crocks and Socks" but they are really practical for DIY.

You can slip them on/off easily to avoid tracking diet into house.

and you can wire brush paint off them mind you your bare feet with Crock paint patterns look nafff

Just come back from London. No cash on buses there now. Either Oyster card or contactless payment (Visa / Mastercard), or payment app (Google / Apple, plus a couple of UK bank apps).

I used Apple Pay on the tube in London last month and it worked brilliantly. I wish we could do that in Wellington rather than having to regularly top up a Snapper card using those horrible unreliable kiosks.

@alasta Did you have to set up a Transport London account to use Apple Pay? I assumed from the publicity that was the case. My better half had pre-purchased London Passes which included Oyster cards pre-loaded with £15, so we just stuck with topping those up.

Back here, I use the Android Snapper app as my only means of topping up Snapper now. I haven't used a kiosk for some time.

No, there was no setup at all required. I just touched my watch against the reader at the gates, and voila! It really is brilliant for visitors because it means you can use the public transport system without needing to register for anything, and without needing to know anything about their ticketing and fare system.

I don't think this works for iPhone? I used to have a Snapper Feeder that plugs into the USB port on a laptop/desktop but it literally fell apart and I don't want to pay $25 for a replacement. Really, the kiosks should be dead simple to use, but they appear to be under-maintained because almost every time I have used one this year it has crapped out on me. The one in the central library was on the blink for weeks despite me having reported it.

The problem wasn't the guy wearing socks - it was the guy havig his legs crossed occupying the space of two seats, having the shoes/sandals at head height (his supporting leg was propped against the wheel wall) and having a bag on the empty seat next to him. All this on a morning commute ride.

You should have asked him if he had paid for two seats, the reaction would have been interesting

I also reported the Snapper kiosk in the central library because I saw someone on here complaining - might actually have been you - and I went over and had a look (I work in the Civic Campus). Somewhere in the last 5-6 weeks it has obviously finally been repaired.

My wish would be for the Christchurch buses to go Metro card only & no top ups done by the bus drivers. That way it would be quicker for everyone & safer for the bus drivers. Then there would only be faulty Metro cards and faulty card readers to worry about.

As for London, the last time I was there I never used a bus, only the tube. I had downloaded a tube map app and before I went on my trip managed to memorise most of the journeys I wanted to do. Mind you sitting on top of a London bus at the front is hard to beat.

It's just much faster by tube usually. Buses often get stuck in the traffic.

When I see people with a bag on the seat next to them, I usually pretend to absentmindedly sit on it (as if it wasn't there). 9 times out of 10 they snatch their bag out of the way before my arse hits the bag...
