Looks like I don't have to go to Gore anymore to get cheap fuel with sharetank. Petone is now up there with the cheapest fuel 😀. 204.9 at Z Petone, 232.9 in Newtown.

For now, this is so much better than 10c discount from AA etc.

I've been using the app for a couple of weeks and enjoy the savings however for some reason I can't redeem more than exactly $66 at a time.

Chatting to their support I got the following:

This is frustrating and it is the way that the product is set up. I will discuss this with our product manager and come back to you with why this is set up in this way.

Any one else having this issue?

We are all good here.. max fill I have done is 72 litres I think. So well over $66 dollars!

Yep, issue is that the pumps can only prepay to whole dollars - effectively sharetank is like typing in $20 on the pump. They should communicate it through their app or faq on their website

Has anyone asked them why pumps want dollars and not liters on the keypad? I asked Z once and they didnt answer.

Only downside I see with sharetank is that you wont get any fly buys or airpoints.

Considering how terrible the earn is on Airpoints or Fly Buys points is at Z I honestly don't think anybody using Sharetank would even care. Given earning 20c worth of Airpoints Dollars or saving say $4 for a tank of gas I'd take the $4 any day.

The only thing you do miss out of is the Airpoints and Fly Buys pumped discount - but if you're getting a deal on Sharetank fuel that's significantly less than the 6c discount then once again I don't think too many people would care!

Not sure if new, but I noticed you can earn bonus litres if you buy over 150 litres.

Is this true?

It was, but I think they removed that feature. When I purchased it before, it was 5 litres bonus at 150 litres purchased.

eph:

I'm confused of how to use this

Precisely Z's intention. Anything to confuse and distract from their price gouging across locations.

An alternative to this nonsense would be for Z to simply standardise their per litre price at the pump.

What would be more sensible for the entire industry to dump the Briscoes style pump the price up and then generously discount to think we are all getting a good deal.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I would be fine if gull would just install 3 tanks to sell 95 or else drop the ethanol from their 98 product, no need to reward the other ripoff merchants.

I confess to some frustrations with this over the last month and wonder if any others have too. First, the pump readers have never worked and so we've always had to join the queue inside (where the QR code is of course instantly read okay). Second (and perhaps a Geek can help me here?!): my wife's app never works but mine (on older phone) always does -albeit with slow loading of app. I've uninstalled & reinstalled my wife's app; I've cleared cache & restarted in advance; yes it uses mobile data - but no go, never. Z can't help. So my wife has given up and returned to BP (!); ie no SHAREtank - it's just me now to use the balance, after which I might give up rather than wasting so much time with it! Aargh....

I had similar issues at the pump. Turns out the sweet spot is to hold the phone about 6 inches from the reader, making sure the phone is the right way up AND swiping down to refresh to QR code just before you scan.

I complained to the app team, and got some help with it. Z forecourt staff were hopeless and always blamed the sun.

My only grip now is that it is not the cheapest alternative to discount vouchers, especially in the Wellington region. If only I could grab Pictons 91 Z station price? 202c vs Seaview @ 211c.

If only we could use discount vouchers when buying sharetank fuel!

What phones are you using with issues?

Scanning phone screens is a nightmare - you only have to look at the issues at airports. In recent versions of Android an app can force full screen brightness which is something the Air NZ app has recently started doing which is great.

Z aren't doing this with their app, but probably should be making the barcode slightly bigger and forcing full screen brightness when the barcode screen is visible.
