Correct, only the Standard Range is eligible for the $8625 rebate , price for that on the road after rebate is $60,107, vs about $84,900 or so for the long range.

Only standard range plus and vehicle needs to be registered 01 July or later. Long range is down to $84k so getting close to threshold.

Hopefully Tesla do something about that $24k gap, they probably wont, but a lower spec potentially software locked LR would be a good option

Yeah, I would have brought a long range if it happened to be $79,999. tbh, I don't need it though - SR+ is more than adequate for me.

Honestly given how good the SR+ is it would be really hard to justify the LR or better.

I have a perf but I would be buying the SR+ today.

I was just reading in Stuff that a Model3 can be had for approx $60k drive-away. I must admit I still thought M3s were just under $80k. $60k definitely brings it into the ‘temptation zone’.

A question for NZ Model 3 owners: I know this is a tricky question to answer, given the number of variables, but I’ll ask it anyway: what’s the realistic range one could expect from a standard-range Model 3 when taking a typical NZ open road trip?

Let’s say departing Wellington City, how far up the island am I likely to make it if driving within the speed limit but in a decently spirited manner?

I think the realisitic range of the SR+ in NZ is more like 330-350km if there's a heavy mix of open road driving. If you were driving Wellington to Auckland then it would be a case of a 10-15min charge at Mangaweka and then a 30-40min charge at Taupo (likely timed well for a lunch or dinner).

I find the EVDatabase website to be a good source of real world range numbers

From what I understand around 320-350km

The current SR+ charges really nicely and theres plenty of superchargers up that central line now.

That says 408 for the MIC SR+ at 90 (summer), our chip seal roads and hills tend to eat a fair bit into that

Good things with the MIC SR+ is the LFP cells like to be charged to 100% and charge past 80% at a decent rate up to 95% or so.

I have had my Model 3 SR+ for a week now and it has been wonderful; and the best "investment" I made for a while.

I drove it from collection in Auckland to Dunedin, which allowed me to get to know the car and also evaluate its real world range in the harsh winter conditions and now I know that when it eventually gets warmer, the range should improve, and if it doesn't - well the range is more than my old man body can handle sitting in one place anyways, so I will more than likely need to get out and stretch long before the car needs a charge.

Can you let us know the approx charging 'itinerary' for your AKL-DUD trip please?

That would also cover the real world NZ range questions....

Did Tesla charge it to 100% before your pick-up?
