15.3 km/l is about 6.5l/100km, and while that's not amazing, for short trips it's probably not out of the question. As has been said, do a few decent trips, check what the car says, and do your own calcs too to make sure it adds up.

Figured out how to get the readings and they are

Current 15.2
Average 19.3
Cruising Range 495. No idea what that means.

Found the graphs which I also don’t understand.

Do these seem normal?

So 19.3 is pretty good economy - around 5l/100km. Think you just need to drive it a bit more and see what happens.

The other photo with graph didn’t upload.

Thanks that’s encouraging. Maybe it’s just something wrong with the gauge. Will do a fill up tomorrow and keep checking the gauge. It’s been upsetting to watch it go down so fast. Got in the car again today after not having driven for a couple days and it dropped past the quarter mark which I swear it hadn’t reached last time it was used. Will photograph it next time I get out of the car to make sure.

average could mean a lot of things - average of entire life, since it was reset, today, this trip, this month etc

but nonetheless 5L/100ks is close to the 4.8 it's supposed to do

Which tends to point to a dodgy fuel tank sensor causing your grief, not rampant fuel consumption or leaks...

although if i thought about it,

if average was for the entire life of the car,

if  current of 19 is for the last few days

then something is not right

maybe reset the whole thing

And this

I don’t understand what I’m reading, but it’s as if suddenly those levels have risen in the last trips.

you can drive 495km before the car runs out of fuel, with the amount of fuel you currently have

Eva888: And this

I don’t understand what I’m reading, but it’s as if suddenly those levels have risen in the last trips.

some hybrids have a "performance" mode where it mainly runs on petrol,

and an "eco" mode where is mainly runs on battery

and "auto" - car decides what to do

does your car have these modes?

Well these two graphs show km/l (although measuring the other way round as l/100km is probably more common), so in these graphs the more km per litre, the better the performance. Even so, best ever performance of 99.9km/l seems a little hard to believe.

Relatively normal. The average is the only one that counts. When I purchased mine more or less fresh off the boat from Japan the average steadily improved over a couple of months driving. Today it sits around 21-22.

Surely that’s not correct. That means I can go Wellington to Cambridge in the Waikato which is 498 km on what’s left in the tank? I can barely go to the supermarket twice a few kms away without it going down by a quarter tank. Bewildering.

It's very strange. Seems like a tank indictor issue with complexities attached.
