I thought the correct method would be to paint correct, PPF and the ceramic coating. But talk to someone that does it all and they will be able to tell you.

Personally I think the price of PPF is not worth it for a base model Model Y, but that is just my preference. Got the ceramic coating and it does seem to keep the white Model Y cleaner for longer, and also really easy to dry off after a wash. So I am pretty happy I used money on that.

You might want to read up on PPF if you are getting that. If you get stone chips with PPF you might still have to redo the PPF later on from my understanding.

So my conclusion is that if I want a pristine car I will just have to use the money to get it re-painted as some point. Probably will end up cheaper than a full PPF.

Might have been an idea with PPF on the most exposed areas, but oh well. Like I said, didn't think it was worth the money.

If you're in New Plymouth, Tesla is joining Electricarna in an official capacity this Saturday where you can talk to Tesla staff and view Model Y, along with test drives. You will need to register your details on the linked page to book a test drive, though.

Curious that Tesla didn't put in a corporate presence at Fully Charged Live in Sydney last month but choose to front up at a minor event like this. Good to see the car companies taking Electricarna seriously and looking forward to seeing the offerings on display there.

Maybe the fact that they are getting the run around from the local council had something to do with the location :)

I guess Tesla has a display presence in Sydney already. New Plymouth, not so much!😁

Having just got back from a big roadie around the lower North Island, I would suggest Tesla tell the NP Council where to ‘place’ their rejection and ‘place’ a Supercharger site at Waitara. That way it covers traffic going to New Plymouth as well as southbound on SH3 towards Whanganui (or vice versa for traffic northbound to Waikato).

I’m sure the local cafes wouldn’t object to the increased patronage from people charging their cars.

Waitara is still part of the NP District Council  - Who are the Nimbys in question

NPDC are promoting the idea of locating public EV charging facilities well away from new Plymouth's CBD as they see such use as competing for available parking. The central city retailers are struggling enough without our council shunning potential drawcards as EV charging facilities but NPDC are an archaically minded bunch so outlying locations such as Waiwakaiho 'Valley', Inglewood or Waitara are likely to benefit from the additional customer foottraffic as a result to the detriment of New Plymouth's CDB businesses.

Having recently travelled that road (yesterday in fact), I still think Waitara is a better location than the dead end (in more ways than one) that New Plymouth is 😁.

I guess they could put some Superchargers north up the coast at Mokau (Waitomo District) where there is currently a solitary Chargenet 50kW unit. No Spark cellphone reception there though (OneNZ okay) so couldn’t monitor the charge from the solitary cafe.

The cellphone, and hence the car data, connection got me wondering if Teslas would be capable of using Starlink at the end of 2024 when it goes live? With new NZ SIMs of course, rather than the roaming Aussie ones they use at the moment.

Don't hold your breath,

Its gonna be text and low volume data (OTT msg apps etc)  to begin, then potentially voice,  then real data.....

I imagine Teslas can chew through a fair bit of data, so I wouldn't expect anything for a while ( or never)

Tesla have started as from late last year been adding Starlink to their superchargers (broadcasting the -well known- Tesla Service SSID which your car, and devices can connect to with the well documented password). This can be used for anything.

Also FYI - the same "Tesla Service" SSID is broadcast in the Auckland service centre supercharger which comes in handy given there is limited coverage there.

...initially. I would be surprised if Tesla's goal isn't to be purely Starlink connected and negate the need for deals with local carriers.

@jonathan18

Ref your aircon flow problem when your wife is in the passenger seat.

I was just watching Andy Slye’s latest hints and tips video on YouTube (recommend them to Tesla 3/Y owners new and old). You can split the flow (left/right) from each of the vents by using two fingers. Touch the flow with two fingers and them move them apart<—>. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Dingbatt, but yep we've tried that (and it's also when using a speedo unit that blocks part of the airvent) - having airflow pointing as far up and out as it can go does minimise the problem (really sore jaws, which is quite weird!) but even this isn't always enough. Manually switching it to only come out different vents (eg, footwell) can work, but then means I don't get the airflow where I need it, plus the auto controls don't work. Luckily it doesn't strike too many times, but at least the rubber strip does solve it when necessary...

If you’ve got access to a 3D printer, maybe a deflector that fits in the vent slot rather than just blocking it?
