Rivian's all-electric ute confirmed for Australia, is New Zealand next?

https://www.autocar.co.nz/autocar-news-app/rivian-r1-t-electric-ute-and-suv-spotted-in-auckland

https://rivian.com/r1t

with a towing capacity of 5 tonne and range of 500k

Well if it all comes together and Australia converts them, will our farmers be happy ❓

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Fine, get a Bollinger B1 instead then. Also, it may have escaped your notice, but about 90% of utes aren't work trucks either. They're supermarket trolleys.

And the content of the first link posted needs some fact checking done:

"In light of recent events, a big electric ute that qualifies for a full government rebate should be snapped up like hotcakes."

$80K price limit.

All farmers need for now (which will come) is utes with lower than 195g co2 so no fees. Ford have these available in other markets now as do other manufacturers.

We'll get hybrid utes and full EV work utes cheaper from China etc before we get any from the USA (whoever is making them there)

Personally, I'd want to wait until they bring them here legitimately. I wouldn't want a brand new vehicle using brand new tech from a brand new company that's been modified in a way that likely voids the warranty.

According to this, the 4WD Rivian will have a curb weight of around 3.3 Tonne,
https://insideevs.com/news/509886/rivian-r1t-truck-model-year/

Add two 100kg Rural people and you hit 3500kg straight up....

A Ute you can't use without a class 2 license isn't gonna be hugely popular....

Isn't the limit 6000kg for class 1?

3500kg is relevant for the rebate (which it wont get anyhow) and some EU drivers licence classifications etc

That headline is grossly misleading.

There is no confirmation from Rivian to sell their ute in Australia. It's just one Aussie company that wants to do LHD to RHD conversions...... if they can source LHD vehicles to start with.
