gzt: That sounds very weird. It's an accident. The lease agreement that does not require or provide insurance? Hard to believe. There must be more to it surely.

Leases have a requirement that you use OEM parts for repairs, that's not a Tesla specific thing, it's just the way leases work, at least in the US. You don't have to get those repairs done at an official dealer though.

So if you return your leased car at the end of the lease and it's got non-oem parts you will be liable for the costs to replace those parts with OEM ones.

That's making more sense. Imo he's in the clear with Tesla provided it's a competent and professional repair. This is no different to I dunno having some weird accident that shears off and wrecks an oil line outlet. You're not going to replace the whole engine block. Any professional is going to re-tap it or helicoil it and something similar was done in this case.

Nearly $70k to get any decent features for what is, essentially, a run-of-the-mill Ford SUV.

Going by what I’ve read on the Outlander battery on other GZ threads and elsewhere, I for one will not be looking at Mitsi PHEVs, whether or not they offer better value for money (which, to be frank, is one of the main attractions of Mitsubishi vehicles).

Personally yes I would avoid, but then ford had to recall all their phev's last year because of potential battery fires, not sure I would trust them any further (and the mach-e is an utter mess)

The Ford mach-e is not an "utter mess." Much of it matches Tesla specs.

The exception is thermal management where Ford went a lot of on-the-shelf boxes, which were then plumb together. Tesla seems to be the industry best.

Not that we're going to be seeing any Mach-E is New Zealand anytime soon, as nothing about a RHD version has been announced.

What's your issue with the Mach-E?

Sandy’s point about off the shelf parts might be relevant in the US where an OEM part is only an overnight courier away. But in NZ, if the Mach-E ever gets here, the ability to use a stock coolant system item to get the vehicle back on the road may be vital. The trade off is more connectors which create a failure point.

And, of course, Tesla had no teething problems with their early models.
