You'd need to walk 500 more @Ge0rge

That's a lot of miles - good chance I might fall down at the door!

Interesting review of the Rivian R1T pickup here:

It isn't cheap - Around $70k USD - What that would be in NZD is anyone's guess.

Looks pretty serious as an off roader.

$140k NZ I would guess (doubling it roughly seems to work for most things)

Should be a great vehicle.

Pity though that the Dual Motor Long Range starts at $84,732 including ORCs.

Its good they have the single motor long range, something tesla doesnt offer under 80k.

But..

the single motors are front wheel drive ????

And the options packs to match tesla specs are expensive, $10k or so on the SR, and the plus pack on the LR single motor takes it over the cap so no heatpump and rebate.

Would be nice if the local importers could get creative and make some of the upgrades a post-sale option.  There seems to be several desirable vehicles sitting at just over the $80k limit.  In the current market I doubt you can just bargain them down to below $80k but a pro quid pro for a later ‘sale option’ would be nice idea.

Does anyone know if we will get this cheap Electric car into NZ market anytime soon?

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-56178802

Apparently the car is outselling Tesla in China and Ive seen good reviews about the car on Youtube.

That Mini EV wouldnt get on NZ's roads and wouldnt get the subsidy due to a total lack of safety equipment and crash protection.

It outsells Tesla because its the cost of a good lunch and Gm want to churn them out for nev credits.

Sometime next year we'll see brands like BYD and Nio here with sub $30k options I think

While it's good to see there are two variants of the Polestar 2 that come in under the $80k threshold, especially given one looks to have a decent range, it's disappointing it's another relatively small-booted car, making it unsuitable for replacing the classic family wagon (in my case, but these days I imagine it's more typically an SUV).

The variants of the EV6 and Ioniq 5 that'll be under the threshold have a decent enough boot, but the range won't be great. If Polestar could make an equivalent version to the Y (and keep it under $80k!) we may be getting closer to my idea of the holy grail...

(And before the Tesla fanbois descend, I don't think I'm ready to own a car that can only be serviced in a small handful of locations, which is my main reason for being sceptical about the Y.)

Looking at the Waka Kotahi's stats for September, 1067 Tesla Model 3 were registered in September. For comparison, there were 1441 Ford Rangers registered in September.
