@fred99 you have spoken extremely harshly about the Hosk, and mentioned how hard he is to avoid, in the strongest possible terms (which seems to be present in almost every post you make these days), it's fair for people to assume you don't like him, and even more fair for people to assume you'd avoid him if possible (unless you are a sadist).

Masochist.

It's a thread about Hosking in a motoring forum, where that "famous (only in NZ) person" made a claim to be as uncrashable as the Titanic was unsinkable, then promptly crashed.

Your comment and attempts to analyse my motives and feelings aren't appreciated.  Keep them to yourself.

His brakes (according to him) failed. This is not normal circumstances. Had they not have failed, would he of crashed?

The Schadenfreude in this thread is disappointing and is contributing to the negative posting style that seems more prevalent by the day.

I am not discussing your anything, other than the behaviour of overly aggressive posting style in many threads. That's not appreciated either.

Without wishing to speculate on your motives and feelings. Your posts give an impression that you strongly dislike the guy and are out to bag him at any opportunity.

Oh for goodness sake - even his wife was laughing at him.  Lighten up a bit.

I think we both know there is a difference both and tone and attitude between what she said and what is being written in this thread.

Laughing's fine. He's laughed at himself and his wife was certainly poking fun at him.

There's a bit of "serves him right for being an jackass" sort of nastiness around this that is something entirely different and I'm pretty sure it is exacerbated by political considerations.

Presumably she loves him for some reason?

I make no secret of the fact that I dislike Hosking. Please cut out the lame netcop nonsense and get over it.

kryptonjohn: Have a look at Rudman's bitter, puerile, sarcastic little effort. Rudman likes to take the bus and despises cars and right wingers. The Horrid should consider putting the old duffer out to pasture.

I looked. Seems to be more or less the opposite to Hosking's view. The part about Hosking wearing a Gucci sackcloth of mourning for John Key seems a bit ott but probably as entertaining for some as some of Hosking going ott as he sometimes does.

The vitriol on display here is amazing. I'M GLAD YOU CRASHED YOUR CAR BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE YOUR OPINIONS! Yeah. Take that, Hosking.

Not so much. Just ironic humor imo.

If the op quoted the article he linked written before the event it might have been more obvious:

Mike Hosking: Since joining Hampton Downs and taking my car round a track at 220km/h I have not crashed, will not crash, and have concluded I am vastly less likely to be in trouble on a track than I am on a road. Why? Because there are no idiots. There is respect and concentration and rules are adhered to, and - oh the irony - ever safer cars.

It's not a great advert for Alfa either.

No it's not:

It's "You crashed your car a week after boasting that you would never crash your car because you're such a great driver - unlike morons on the road".

Any celebrity media figure who'd done the same would be facing the same ridicule.  But most people seem to be able to restrain themselves from boasting to the world about how impeccable, flawless, and superior they believe themselves to be - when spewing vitriol about others.

The funniest part about this is seeing partisan Hosking supporters lining up to defend the fool.

For myself, these sorts of off-topic posts where you often engage in virtue signaling and moral policing of other people's posting styles are equally unappreciated. How about you just post about the topic and stop commenting on posters per se?

Edit: typo and grammar

I'm no supporter of Mike Hosking but I'm prepared to defend him or anybody else against such ridicule and vitriol. These attacks are almost entirely negative and unconstructive because they go way beyond pointing out the supposed inconsistency or hypocrisy.

I'm thankful that most people on Geekzone seem to able to restrain themselves from attacking others in this way.
