From the Spinoff today: five people to avoid sitting next to on public transport.

Great cartoons

I don't know if I agree with the last criticism of the woman complaining about music thats not too loud.
I find it a pain if there is multiple music on the go at once from different people and or where the headphones are so loud you get a muffled "high pitched tick tick " in your ear

Also pardon for being un-pc but good cartoons would have been of

1. The blokes that sit with their legs open so wide its almost the splits, and

2. Super obese passengers that throw themselves into the isle seats crushing you against the window when maybe they should be in the disability seats (plural that is)

@alasta Did you have to set up a Transport London account to use Apple Pay? I assumed from the publicity that was the case. My better half had pre-purchased London Passes which included Oyster cards pre-loaded with £15, so we just stuck with topping those up.

No, there was no setup at all required. I just touched my watch against the reader at the gates, and voila! It really is brilliant for visitors because it means you can use the public transport system without needing to register for anything, and without needing to know anything about their ticketing and fare system.

Back here, I use the Android Snapper app as my only means of topping up Snapper now. I haven't used a kiosk for some time.

I don't think this works for iPhone? I used to have a Snapper Feeder that plugs into the USB port on a laptop/desktop but it literally fell apart and I don't want to pay $25 for a replacement. Really, the kiosks should be dead simple to use, but they appear to be under-maintained because almost every time I have used one this year it has crapped out on me. The one in the central library was on the blink for weeks despite me having reported it.

I also reported the Snapper kiosk in the central library because I saw someone on here complaining - might actually have been you - and I went over and had a look (I work in the Civic Campus). Somewhere in the last 5-6 weeks it has obviously finally been repaired.

On stuff - looks like Snapper top up hassles are going away...

Don't know if this is the right place but does anyone have any issues with the new bus routes or should I say binned bus routes. The Seatun 11 is gone so there goes my direct bus near the airport from Newtown. Why change something that isn't broken?

From the article: "They will also be able to top up their Snapper accounts using bank accounts or cards, mobile devices, or other electronic payment services."

Oh dear. We already to this. Some "journalists"...

Looking at Johnsonville West (53) it seems like it will change soon (around the time Snapper comes to Newlands Coach Service) - Metlink tells me it will be better but looking at the route description, I doubt it. Let's see when it comes live in a couple of months.

I predict issues with the new No 1 North/South "spine route" from Johnsonville to Island Bay too. Not sure how they intend to maintain bus frequency when the inevitable accident / congestion occurs on the Ngauranga Gorge. Will be fairly frustrating if you are waiting in Lambton Quay to get to Island Bay.

'Stuff' isn't a reliable source when it comes to detail, but it's good to know that there is work being done to improve Snapper.

I can remember when Snapper first launched and it was promoted as a convenient form of payment for small purchases at convenience stores, etc. Of course, in the end contactless credit cards put an end to that and since then it has felt like the product hasn't really seen any investment.

The current bus shelter at Welly Airport has been moved some distance from the terminal and is a bodgy little plywood structure that doesn't really provide shelter for many people.  This heading into the nasty part of winter too.

Cold wet conditions last night.  I took one look at the queue and took a taxi instead.

Wellington airport clips the ticket every time a bus comes to the airport, so there is a source of funds to provide appropriate shelter.

Thats a crappy treatment of PT users. And people wonder why the roads are full of cars.

It is supposed to move to a new fully covered stop inside the new "transport hub"  in "mid 2018",  but recent progress on the building appears glacial, and I've not seen any recent updates on any definite completion date......

I use the Johnsonville West 53 daily too.

My understanding is that the weekday service will run every 20 during peak, BUT only go as far as the Hub\Station. There we will need to switch to the new Route 1 bus, which has already been around Churton Park. Although the route 1 bus from Churton Park is supposedly every 10 minutes.

If the new Johnsonville west bus van run every 20 minutes, it might be an improvement on the existing service.

On Monday morning, the last direct bus into Courtney place was 25 minutes late, and the driver had the nerve of going past in the opposite direction to the start of the route.

Sounds quite luxurious.

A few of the stops on the my route are like this, or you just have to stand on the road. I used to catch the bus from this stop for a few years, you get soaked in the rain!

Oh, and the final bugbear for the day.

They've got a new color scheme for the side of the buses, but for some weird reason, it's going to stay the yellow on the front. A bit of consistency please, leaving the front as is looks like a half a$$ed job.

Both are very poor facilities.  But consider that the Wellington Airport Shelter often has 20 or 30 people waiting for the bus.  During peak times there are frequently more people waiting than the bus can fit, if you want to get in a bus you may have to queue for 15 minutes and it's a very exposed location in a Southerly.

Which makes me unhappy because this means we will have to switch buses - meaning getting off the bus, waiting again for the next one, getting in another queue, etc while today we don't have anything of that on the peak time buses - it goes all the way to Courtenay Pl.
