After reading all your fantastic replies (thank you), I have decided to hold off buying an EV.

It seems that it just isn't meant to be at the moment, until I am in a house of my own where I can install a charger (or even trickle charge).

I don't plan on buying a house for a little while, so will probably look at an ICE vehicle in the mean time.

I also will be staying away from a Hybrid vehicle - for me its going to be either full ICE or full electric.

As an aside, I've found my local NW has a 25kw charger which shouldn't punish the battery of a Leaf anywhere near as much as a 50kw charge. So that will be my go-to until funding permits a better house with a garage.

This story is behind Newsroom's paywall this morning,  (They usually become free after a few days)

Auckland’s free EV chargers won’t be free much longer

Vector is looking to get rid of its network of Auckland electric vehicle chargers. Selling will shake up the market in our biggest city, not least for EV customers who will have to start paying for power
