According to the clip 25,000 pounds... so that's north of 50K here,.... so its pretty much in the same hunting ground as the MG EVs  ( which are larger cars...)

An interesting & potentially useful development - at least when extended to be able to charge any electric vehicle.

F-150 Lightning will be able to charge other EVs

That reminds me. A selling point of Rivian was its 120V (American mains) external power point, but oddly that article has been removed from Rivian's website.

Personally I think Rivian stock is over-valued.

Some terminology:
  • NASDAQ: an American system for quoting over-the-counter securities

  • IPO: initial public offering, process of offering shares of a private corporation to the public in a new stock issuance
Carbuzz: Elon Musk Isn't Happy That Rivian Is Now Worth More Than Ford

Elon Musk couldn't keep himself from throwing some shade after Rivian hit a $95 billion valuation.

The owners at Rivian will likely be having a massive party this weekend following an epic debut on the NASDAQ. Rivian's original IPO was set at US $77 billion, putting it in the same league as Ford and GM.

As it turned out, the initial price per share was $78, increasing to $116. That means the company ended up with a valuation of $95 billion. To put that in context, it's the sixth highest valuation in US history.

Rivian is now worth the same as companies like 3M and Lockheed-Martin and worth more than Ford and GM. Rivian's customers will also be celebrating this weekend, as the EV manufacturer set a chunk of shares to the side for its customers.

Amazon, which owns around 20% of Rivian, will also welcome the good news. Amazon initially signed on so Rivian could produce 10,000 EV delivery vans. ...

Not everyone was happy, however. Elon Musk threw some subtle shade by tweeting, "Tesla is the only American carmaker to reach high volume production & positive cash flow in past 100 years." Musk has made it quite apparent that he doesn't see a future for Rivian, which is hardly surprising considering the two companies are currently busy with an extensive legal battle.

It could also just be sour grapes, considering that Rivian is the first manufacturer in automotive history to produce an electric pickup successfully. At the same time, the Cybertruck remains nothing but an empty promise with no clear introduction date.

Yah figure :).....

There is so much upside being baked into Rivian its not funny,

They are expected to deliver less that 1500 vehicles and they are worth $100 billion!!!!..... Even in 2022 Production will be well below 100K units...

Lucid is exactly the same....

And BTW Rivian still promote their 120V outlets , but the gear tunnel  and camp kitchen is the new gotta have plaything.....

Funny - I always thought that your negative outlook was reserved for anything that wasn't an EV, but apparently you can be negative about them too.

Regardless of the fact that another vehicle can do this, and even if you're skeptical towards its usefulness, someone may look at this and think "oh that's interesting, I'm going to read some more" and more people learning and engaging with EV is a good thing.

Personally, I quite like the idea that I can take my (green)redneck truck into the wilderness with my electric quad on the back, and spend the day cruising around on the quad, using the pickup to then charge the quad as required, without needing to take a gene with me - so there's a use already.

Plenty but apparently not worthy of mention in the spec's quoted: https://www.rivianownersforum.com/threads/rivian-r1t-usb-ports.330/

This came up on a mountainbike thread. How to charge an e-bike when in the wilderness in your RV. The consensus was take a generator...

I asked how far taking a motorbike was being more practical. Yes I know they are heavier, but if you have to listen to petrol generator for several hours while you're camping to charge up your bike, why not cut out the middle-man?

And the lawn mowing contractor recharging his battery powertools (mower/strimmer/blower) on the go.

As electrification expands into area traditionally the domain of the ICE engine (outboards, bikes, snow mobiles, etc) the demand for off grid power sources will grow, for  Utes and larger SUV's a mains power outlet will become standard....

Interesting - my parents have just brought an rv, specifically to take their e-bikes away and camp. Larger solar panels on the roof, upgraded the house battery to a decent sized lithium and they charge both their bikes in silence. Their RV has a 'garage' space in the back so the bikes are locked up and can be charging when they're on the move or parked up.

The idea of charging other tools etc i can see becoming much more prevalent - Jim's mowing / tradespeople / arborists will all be able to charge their equipment without requiring power on site.

Tying this slightly off topic piece back to this thread, it will only work when there are vehicles with significantly more range than people require for the vehicle itself. No good if Jim can't drive to the next job because is van battery has gone flat charging the weed eater.

Some asshat councillor didnt want to give Musk a free parking space.

not even joking.

It seems the Council has decided that their ratepayers will be paying for an EV charging facility that Tesla was proposing to pay for: https://www.npdc.govt.nz/media/rjcdjzve/strategy-and-operations-committee-minutes-16-november-2021.pdf (Item #4)

Looking a gift horse in the mouth??

One of those Strategy and Operations Committee Recommendations came from this guy: https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming/127012748/tractors-utes-set-to-rumble-through-new-plymouth-cbd-for-second-farmers-protest Not surprised the motion was declined.

Check out the first 10 minutes of Video 1 of the Strategy & Operations Committee November 16th proceedings. www.npdc.govt.nz...
A classic example of a group of fossils making decisions on something they don't understand and for most participants haven't undertaken knowledgable research on.

The offhand pro-ICE comments are very telling of what mindset this Council is mired in.
