Stu: There are already Chinese made EV in NZ. MG and BYD come to mind, there may be more. I think they start at around $50,000.00, so they're up there with the rest. Certainly don't seem to be interested in inexpensive options.

I've been on Geekzone over 16 years..... Time flies....
98 at Mobil in Ōtaki was $3.39 this morning as I drove past.
I've just filled up at Mobil in Paraparaumu for $2.69.
I don't even know how petrol companies keep a straight face anymore when asked about their record profits.

Great Wall is bringing the Ora Cat to NZ soon. It's a cool looking car.
It looks like a Mini spent a wild night with a Porsche.
I love it.
I see Gull Greville Rd (Auckland) is selling 91 at $2.60 at the moment.
That would be the cheapest AKL gas I have seen for a while.
Meanwhile Mobil Wairau Rd (not far from Gull Greville, really) is $2.81.9
Can't be accused of collusion when there's that kind of disparity.

Local distributor already have a page up for it, the 50K sticker price still looks a bit steep thou

Pretty bad. I'm paying well below retail rates for petrol and diesel but still feeling the pinch. Suffice to say I haven't been doing much offshore fishing lately.

The MG is $40k after Clean Car incentives. To put this in perspective, this car has more range then a $70,000 Nissan or Hyundai 2 years ago. Prices are definitely coming down.
Factor in never buying petrol from Day One and the 5 year picture says these cars are already cheaper overall than a comparable new petrol car assuming you drive 50km or more each day.
LDV sell two electric vans ("e-Deliver") and a ute (T-60 electric).

I'm, not sure I'd leap into Chinese car (EV or ICE) based on what I've seen/experienced
Great Wall ... not if you value your life, lol. I test drove one of their utes and it reminded me of Japanese utes but 15 years older.
I've hired a petrol MG SUV over Easter. I don't recall which model but it was a POS. Awful ride, handling and general experience. Looked OK(ish), but that was it's only positive feature IME. It had 4 wheels and went from A to B, but its not something that would be enjoyable to own.
Those LDV light commercials are very limited. The van would be good if you have light loads delivered over short distances with predominance of urban driving.

Creeping up to the 2.60 range for 91 in CHC cbd again. Makes my pre purchased at 2.67(or 76) look less sadface if they all rise up.
Further afield you can still get a deal around the 2.49 mark.
Diesel however... now only 6c cheaper at most places. What the.

Yikes. Just went past Caltex Whakatane, $2.37. You'd think somewhere like Auckland would have economies of scale (or is the Auckland tax back again?).
The Auckland (Goff) tax never left.

The MG ZS EV is a completely different driving experience to the petrol version and most reviews of the 1st gen model will attest to that. I wouldn't base your perception of the MG EV on the underpowered ICE version.
I don't care about petrol prices. I only ever fill up for 30€ anyway. ;-)

I only care about the fuel prices because my wife pays for petrol, so does my son.
I have a fully paid company car, so don't think about the cost when I fill up (fuel card means the pump price is irrelevant anyway).

I already have, first impressions count. Regardless of drive train and power it was still a poorly made, poorly designed car. The EV version is likely to be faster but a heavier drive train on the same or similar horrid suspension package.
