Linuxluver: Frugal millionaires are miserly people who don't buy anything unless they absolutely have to. :-)

I've known a few super-rich, and they are the cheapest people I know.

I remember a friend that used a trick when filling his car. Once the pump stopped, but with the nozzle still in the tank, he'd lift the hose to get the last few drops of gasoline.

And he was a terror at restaurants, where anything free meant he'd grab as much as he could carry. His glovebox was full of condiments.

And when we went to hotels, he'd NEVER pay the advertised price. We'd go from hotel to hotel for hours, where he'd spend 30 minutes negotiate the rate, only to leave, and eventually return to the one with the cheapest rate.

(In hotels, any room that goes unused means money lost, so if you show up, some are willing to do a deal)

But when he did spend money, wow, he'd spend money.

Tesla recalls 350,000 cars for potential rear camera fault, 120,000 cars for trunk opening safety fault.

The Hill: In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday, Tesla said it plans to recall 356,309 Model 3 vehicles made between 2017 and 2020 over concerns that the car's rearview camera cable harness may be damaged by the opening and closing of the trunk, which the company said could prevent the rearview camera image from displaying.

The company is also recalling up to 119,909 Model S cars made between 2014 and 2021 due to the car's front trunk latch being misaligned, which Tesla said could prevent the secondary hood latch from engaging and result in the hood opening unexpectedly, according to another Wednesday letter to the NHTSA

Mine is showing on Tesla's recall VIN search. It's a pretty minor issue so I'll probably just leave it until it gets its first WoF next December

Mines not recalled so presume it doesn’t impact MIC cars.

Bit of a cheek BMW asking EV limit to be raised from $80K to $150K so more BMW EV's can be sold.

If you can afford to buy a $150K car, I don't think an $8 rebate will matter that much

It's not whether or not someone can afford to buy the car or not. Even if you can afford to buy something, you may not. If the rebate encourages anyone to buy a new EV then that is a good thing. Every new EV sold is one more EV and one less ICE available for multiple second hand sales over the coming years.

Personally I had thought $100K, but okay, $150K works. (BMW’s BEV range is approx $115K+ excl i3).

That will allow all the regular brand’s long range models, some of the luxury brand’s models and a number of utility vehicles like the Ford Lightning, Rivian and even the Cybertruk, to gain from the rebate.

Any EV on the road is likely an ICE off it. Setting an upper limit is just socialist posturing (the feebate scheme is not supposed to cost the taxpayer anything).

As I pointed out in the DC charging thread, the rebate reduces the fuel savings payback by approx 3 years.

Ive got to ask @Kingdragonfly, why is it cheeky? Green eyed monster maybe?

EVs Enhanced now have a page up to register interest for their 16 blade packs. Have signed on: if it works out to a reasonable price and timing we would consider keeping the Leaf instead of selling when the M3 arrives as our son is old enough to get his restricted this year and for reasons of both running costs and safety it would be better for him to be able to have the use of that rather than us scrape together for an old crap ICE (slash hang onto the old crap ICE we already have).

We'd be keen to register. A link to EV Enhanced's registration page would be useful...

NZ Post uses the Paxter manufactured in Norway

News report Paxsters were involved in 30 crashes during the national launch in 2016, with two of the incidents involved collisions with moving vehicles. Other 28 seems to have been vehicles, letterboxes, concrete posts and such. Two accidents, in 2016, injured the driver.

There were 36 in 2017 to 80 in 2018.

In 2019, that figured went 250, with two serious accidents. NZ Post spokesperson said severity of the injuries was less than those in bicycles.

"We have seen declining costs associated with injuries since the introduction of Paxsters, this suggests injuries are less severe in nature than traditional bicycle.

"We believe this is attributable to the stability of a four wheel vehicle versus a two wheel, more efficient braking, greater visibility and more robust protection offered by a Paxster versus a Bicycle."

I knew few super rich who did not know me before, but opened their doors for me when I needed it most, hosted, feeded me, showed around in their cars, or giving their cars, without asking anything in return, not charging a buck for staying, for food or gas. Refused to accept money when offered. All were in different countries: USA, New Zealand, Russia, Latvia, Japan.

I'm getting way off subject, I've known a couple of nice rich person also, but they were both trust-fund babies. They did put their money to good use. (one doing good work in Siberia, a hard place to do charity, the other an environmentalist trying to get two-stroke marine motors banned)

The problem are many millionaires are millionaires because they worship money.

I've never known a billionaire (I think), but the wealthy can definitely pay a little extra for EV's.
