@Dingbatt you're 100% correct, that is infact a Model S. I don't have a sub to The Herald so couldn't see that pic.

But yeah, Model S & X didn't start officially selling here until 2017 with the refreshed frontend. Any with the old nose cone are imports.

It points more to the accuracy of the Herald reporting and editing than anything else.

I think The Herald just found a random stock image of Tesla's and figured it ticked the box. Good to see they're going to the extra effort with subscribers money!

Herald article today: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/okay-beamer-striking-image-shows-tesla-takeover-at-auckland-port/XC6QUF6ZKCJGSXAFN72YOROYXM/

It seems the sales of the Model 3 are pretty good, I know that I've seen quite a number of them on the road around the Waikato.

Tesla outsold BMW, Audi and Mercedes here last year and nearly outsold ford (and close to VW), in passenger cars.

And thats with 1 model and 1 showroom.

Yeah, but Ford sold 3 times as many Rangers as model 3s, Similar to the US where Ford sold twice as many F series Utes compared to Domestic US Tesla sales

Kia 10,142

Mitsubishi 14,564

Toyota 17,855

Tesla and others are certainly making inroads, but they're still minnows in comparison to the big players.

RobDickinson:

Lexus, Audi = minows?

yes they didnt sell more than the biggest sellers at the moment. or outsell the ford ranger. so what.

In the NZ vehicle market, yes. Toyota sold more vehicles in Dec 21 alone than Lexus and Audi managed combined for the entire year of 2021.

As for your second comment - you've missed the entire argument I've made around the EV opportunity for a manufacturer in NZ.

KiwiME:]The Type 2 EVs (the NZ standard) typically have an "Auto Unlock" setting in the car which allows automatically unlocking the connector when AC charging has finished.

Have yet to see one like this. Care to offer any examples?

Or possibly it will eat its own young. Cannibalise sales from the Model 3 where people want a hatchback and a higher ride height. The Y will also launch into a market that includes the Ioniq5, EV6, Polestar 2, BMW iX, i4 and iX3*. None of those competitors were available in NZ when the M3 launched, or when there was a pulse of orders at the start of the rebates.

* And possibly within 12 months of those vehicles, the Enyaq, iD3 and iD4, and if we’re lucky the Mach-E.

I believe the Audi's will auto-unlock when they've finished charging.
