surfisup1000: [snip] So valid point, it is possible there was some kind of road rage going on between the 2 drivers.

It's certainly possible - would be interesting to know!

Journeyman:

I have an 80k expressway near my house. It's 2 lanes each way and I often am stuck behind people who sit at 60kph when the conditions do not provide any reason not to. I cannot understand it. Are they ignorant to all the speed limit signs around the place? Are they too timid to drive at the limit but too selfish to move over? Are they just plain dumb? I'll die and never know.

I don't follow, if its two lanes each way how are you stuck behind them?

If they <are> impeding traffic then complete a Roadwatch report, they will get a letter. Dashcam is king for recording the details you need for the report ;-)

That is not a rule here, you can pass in any lane you like.

Passing on the left

You can only pass on the left when:

  • there are two or more lanes on your side of the centre line and you are able to pass safely by using the left-hand lane
  • you are directed to by a police officer
  • the vehicle you are passing:

    • has stopped, or
    • is signalling a right turn, or
    • is turning right.

At all other times, when you are passing, you must pass on the right.

that is not legislation though which try as it might is not enforceable, just frowned upon. see 2.8 (2) (a) below which actually says you can do it. but it goes against the keep left unless passing mantra.

the legislation actually states this:

2.8 Passing on left

(1) A driver must not pass or attempt to pass on the left of another vehicle moving in the same direction except in accordance with this clause.

(2) In any case in which the movement referred to subclause (1) may be made,—

(a) the 2 vehicles must be in different lanes; or

(b) the overtaken vehicle must be stationary or its driver must have given or be giving the prescribed signal of that driver’s intention to turn right; or

(c) if the overtaken vehicle is a light rail vehicle moving in the same direction, the light rail vehicle must not be—

(i) signalling an intention to turn left or to stop; or

(ii) stationary for the purposes of allowing passengers to alight or board.

(3) If the roadway is marked in lanes, the driver may make the movement referred in subclause (1) only if the driver’s vehicle does not encroach on a lane that is unavailable to a driver.

I saw this guy being a total idiot earlier on - basically speeding and dangerous lane changing. Unfortunately I did a rookie mistake and used a standard 64gb Sandisk card in my new Dashcam which cooked itself in a day (Lesson - With front+rear dashcams ALWAYS use high-endurance cards) so couldn't recover earlier on with him being a tosser - lets say Karma hit him hard in the end. Also didn't manage to recover the recordings from the rear camera as I didn't download them before the card cooked itself.

So undertake legally and Roadwatch them is the way to go

Argh. A single parking space available, so I indicate left a few seconds in advance. I'm just on the threshold of beginning to turn into it when a car swoops in from the other side of the street and nabs it.

Is it legal to grab a parking space that's on the opposite side? Admittedly I've done it occasionally, but not when someone else is coming!

If you're turning left and they're turning right, they have to give way to you regardless. You have the right of way.

Welcome to the Blackvue club! I have been using a couple of these Samsung cards for 3 years now without any problems.

I have the Blackvue DR650GW-2CH. Not sure if the new DR750 writes more data, it might do. So might not be suitable for your camera.

lets say Karma hit him hard in the end. Also didn't manage to recover the recordings from the rear camera as I didn't download them before the card cooked itself.

Was it the white car?
