Any cost of conversion of an existing vehicle will be several times more than the cost of a new ev

I had a look around - not in-depth ...just a quick look around ...apparently someone does it in NZ - https://www.thesurgery.co.nz/services/electric-vehicle-conversions/

4. What are the costs?

It can depend if you want to use a kit or work to build something more custom. They vary from vehicle to vehicle, with the majority of the cost being the batteries. Every year the cost of batteries goes down, as demand and development continue. The typical cost estimate based on a vehicle being in good “Warrant of Fitness” state can be on average between $30,000-$55,000 NZD for the EV parts.

I'm pretty sure I saw a VW Karmann Ghia that had been converted to electric. That's how I see some older vehicles staying on the road. I'm sure I took a pic.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/128038025/the-cost-of-living-electric-car-owners-in-pole-position-as-fuel-prices-surge

With most motorists despairing as the price of fuel surges to an all-time high, Stephen Hobo-Tuck is one car owner whose wallet won't be taking much of a hit.

For the New Plymouth man “filling up” means charging his 2015 Nissan Leaf with electricity.

‘’I plug the car in, in the garage every night, and its full of fuel in the morning,” he said.

‘’The reason I bought it was for a business car around town, but I have been as far as Wellington. I’ve been to Taupo and Whangamomona.’’

Sounds like a crazy time to be out shopping for an ev at the moment. The specialists in Christchurch sold double what they were selling a month over last weekend. Looks they have very little stock left even of the ones they have already in boats coming in to the country.

Yea prices have increased by about 20% in Japan, my 40kwh dream might be over before it begins :(

Fortunately my little fuel efficient Mini rocketship is also apparently a hot-ticket item. So I might see if I can twist someone's arm to lend me a car, take the cash while it's on offer and get a Leaf closer to when my partner returns to work.

Also MG ZS EV

https://thedriven.io/2022/03/17/mg-sells-200-zs-ev-compact-electric-suvs-in-first-week-on-sale-in-australia/

Initial delivery date in NZ appears to be July or Aug.

Guess it won't be long before per capita EV sales in AU exceed NZ?

First Polestar 2 deliveries in AU

https://thedriven.io/2022/03/17/its-stunning-to-drive-first-polestar-2-deliveries-made-in-australia/

Interesting. I have seen a few driving around Auckland over the past couple of weeks, and not the demo ones either. Maybe the second shipment has been delivered here as well. From what I can tell, a limited number arrived at Christmas time. Talk about a soft launch!
