We need some laws/rules around this like Norway has

Saw a video on fully charged about this and it's incredible how they just went all in, they started this push in the 90s way before anyone else even thought about it. The fact it's a legal requirement to facilitate it in newbuilds and all tenants have the right to be able to charge their car definitely helps. The ev only city centre car park in oslo was something else. Do feel like somewhere like the arts precinct in Christchurch if they build that new car park it should be a requirement to be able to install a lot if chargers easily so they can phase more and more in over time.

Do you drive to work which has its own carpark? Would they be open to installing a charger?

No, I take the bus to work and the car really only gets used for trips out of town. Realistically it won't be viable for me to buy an EV for some time because I am a long way off the ideal use case, but I'm keen to learn more about them so that I can think about it longer term.

I hate big trucks since I do city driving, but this one might change my mind.

Longer term the charging issue will only improve. I think/hope we'll start to see more on-street chargers for those with houses that only have street parking like the UK and other European countries have started doing. As long as you have a street light on the street you could potentially have an EV charger there too. Wellington has already done a trial for this so there's hope that it will expand in the future.

An electric bus catches fire in Paris.

To put this into perspective, diesel and petrol bus fatally catch fire at least once a year.

See Wiki, and this video which killed 52 people in 2018

Those were in England and diesel buses. The electric bus was in Paris :)

One man’s fun is another man’s annoyance.

Either way it achieves the adman’s aim, which is for it to be memorable.

In Norway at the moment, and saw this car at one of the places we have been staying. A driving school that uses an Ioniq 5. Pretty cool I think.

Oh and just to skite, here is our rental:

Just to get back to the topic. I posted on another thread I am keen on the Kia EV6 but my wife isn't quite sold on the styling at the moment.

i have arranged to test the Polestar 2 but that looks like it's going to be over budget if I want the pilot pack which provides similar functionality to the EV6 base model.  Looking online at the new MG ZX EV which looks much nicer than the first generation Tried to search this thread to find comments but didn't see mch.

My bro has the first gen and he likes it but has some issues. The second generation appears to have fixed the majority of those and at $53K for the Essence before rebated, it's much cheaper than the EV6 (but that could not comparing apples to apples).

YT reviews seem quite enthusiastic though which is encouraging so I plan to take a test drive next week.

Anybody driven the new one and any comments?

I’ve got the MG ZS EV and love it.
Yea it’s got a few issues but nothing that would stop me from buying one again.
As you said the new model coming looks to be much better and more tech included.
Not sure what the wait time would be though if you ordered one now.
I know the first shipment sold out a while ago. That’s due to arrive July/august I think.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Here’s a question that shows how much of a noob I am.

Do I need to preload funds on my Chargenet account before I use one of their fast chargers? Or will it automatically bill my credit card I have loaded with them?

What about Tesla Superchargers?
