Here’s a question that shows how much of a noob I am.

Do I need to preload funds on my Chargenet account before I use one of their fast chargers? Or will it automatically bill my credit card I have loaded with them?

What about Tesla Superchargers?

ChargeNet just puts the amount on your credit card. No idea how the Tesla system works.

Just add your credit card in your Tesla account and after that you can rock up to the supercharger. Easiest way to charge ever.

Thank you both.

Planning on using them this long weekend so didn’t want to have a head scratcher at the kiosk.

Am popping down to the nearest Chargenet now to have a trial run.

Chargenet invoice me monthly after use. Most chargers I use are the free ones so I think I've only actually received one invoice for any money.

Really? How did you manage that? They switched to instant billing about a year ago.

Sounds like you have ChargeNet sorted. If you happen to come across a paid OpenLoop charger then they are prepaid only at this stage - you will need to preload funds into your OpenLoop account ahead of charging. At this stage I think only the Z in Rolleston is a paid charger but I suspect they're moving the rest of them to this model too.

Just to get back to the topic. I posted on another thread I am keen on the Kia EV6 but my wife isn't quite sold on the styling at the moment.

i have arranged to test the Polestar 2 but that looks like it's going to be over budget if I want the pilot pack which provides similar functionality to the EV6 base model.  Looking online at the new MG ZX EV which looks much nicer than the first generation Tried to search this thread to find comments but didn't see mch.

My bro has the first gen and he likes it but has some issues. The second generation appears to have fixed the majority of those and at $53K for the Essence before rebated, it's much cheaper than the EV6 (but that could not comparing apples to apples).

YT reviews seem quite enthusiastic though which is encouraging so I plan to take a test drive next week.

Anybody driven the new one and any comments?

I’ve got the MG ZS EV and love it.
Yea it’s got a few issues but nothing that would stop me from buying one again.
As you said the new model coming looks to be much better and more tech included.
Not sure what the wait time would be though if you ordered one now.
I know the first shipment sold out a while ago. That’s due to arrive July/august I think.

Well I showed my wife videos of the new MG ZS EV and she didn't like the look so that's a non-starter. Going to test the EV6 again and do a garage test. Based on measurements it will fit in my garage with my other car but I am worried about the width since at the moment it take a bit of maneouvring to get both cars in and be able to open the doors. Reminder to me - get rid of some of the junk stacked against the garage wall or get some shelves :-(

DeLorean has returned as a sporty gull-winged EV | Stuff.co.nz

I wouldn't be buying anything with gull / falcon wings, except the 1950's Mercedes 300 SL.

Musk from 2016

“I need to fault myself for a little bit of hubris for putting too much technology all at once into a product. In retrospect, the right thing to do with the Model X would have been to take a lot of the really awesome cool things but kind of table them for a future version . . . The software that controls the Model X and the operation of the doors has been incredibly difficult to refine, and getting the complex set of sensors to work well has been incredibly difficult to refine. I think we’re almost there in making the doors useful.

It’s a software problem. How do you interpret all the information from the sensors? What should you remember? What shouldn’t you remember? How should you open the door in different circumstances, if you’re in a low ceiling or a narrow situation? If the sensor is giving erroneous feedback, when is the right time to ignore the sensor? Digging ourselves out of the hole has been quite, quite hard.”

That's an old quote now though, from when the Model X was new. They've since bedded in their functionality and they kept the door design with the recent refresh. Most people that have the X and kids praise the doors for how much access it gives them to wrangle kids into the car.

I suspect 2024 DeLorean's and 1950's Mercedes 300 SL's are for the same kinds of buyer - those who have cash to spare and are looking for an exclusive car to attract attention (and to an extent the same applies for Model X buyers).

I see Westpac in Australia are offering 4.99% discounted loans to buy an EV up to $100k.
