Obraik:

Model Y orders have opened. Starting at $78k including ORC, you can get all paint colours except Red under the rebate value

@martyyn - this may well be relevant to you, given your recent post noting that a reason for you discounting the Model 3 was the delays in orders arriving.

I've just ordered a Y, which claims to be scheduled for delivery Aug-Nov 22. I know there's a chance of slippage, but it does indicate wait times that are relatively short.

Obraik has also noted in the Model Y thread there's a Y for viewing in the Akld showroom if you're near there. I imagine they'll get one in Wgtn and Chch fairly soon?

IDK but having seen the Polestar 2 in the flesh, the Model Y design doesn't do much for me anymore.

Also conscious that may because the M3 is doing so well and I'm seeing it everywhere.

But the hoon in me wants a blue Polestar 2 with gold wheels and the hotted up performance pack.

What's Powerball this weekend?

Dude, if it’s a powerball win I’m heading straight to the Audi dealer for an eTron GT!

Thanks @jonathan18

I did take a quick look at the website but the Y is $30k more and we just don't need the range or the tech a Tesla offers.

... whereas I dislike the look of the Polestar 2 so, yeah, horses for courses!

There's been a bit of discussion on the Model Y thread about its looks (or lack thereof). I can't say I find it a particularly attractive car, but I'm not drawn to the looks of higher-riding vehicles (including nearly all SUVs) anyway. I think the Model 3 looks better in the flesh than in photos, so am hoping the MY is the same. But, as pointed out on that thread, as the driver I'm in the car looking out, so the external aesthetics don't have to be a critical factor in a purchasing decision. I couldn't buy a car I truly dislike (oops, we own a Leaf!) but I reckon I can live ok with the Model Y...

IDK I like distinctive design and maybe if the Y and 3 had launched locally at the same time then it wouldn't seem so played out.

Like I say, probably just a by-product of having so much time around Model 3s now that it doesn't look as fresh as it once did. But then again they all look like Mondeos to me.

Now the Ora Goodcat GT... that's different.

On show in Oz, I dont think the Y looks bad at all for the size of suv, to some its under style for sure but I hate over styling

All the pictures I've seem makes it look small. Perhaps it's just a matter of perspective. It appears to have very little boot space.

Over all the looks are OK except for the "beak" on the front of the car which I think looks ugly. Same goes for other Teslas IMO.

I'll take you word on that. Must be the perspective as it looks very short at the rear. Looks can be deceiving.

From the photos it didn't look much different in boot size to the Model 3 which isn't big in that department.

I am a Tesla hater and even I think it looks pretty good.

What's with the mismatched alloys on the front vs rear wheels? That looks really odd.

Rear is the actual alloy, front is the same alloy with the plastic hubcap you get fitted

That's really funny to me, given boot space has been a key driver for me purchasing a Y over any other EV currently available in NZ! Many other cars have been considered and failed on this metric alone (eg the EV6).

As Rob says, the Y's boot is substantial. But then there's also the under-floor storage which is surprisingly large, as well as the frunk.
