Obraik:

The MG does have a 7 year unlimited KM warranty if that makes a difference. It has a LFP pack too, which makes degradation even less of an issue.

Its a really attractive package and I do hope that it proves to be very successful for MG. I would just like to see them established a bit longer in the NZ market before I buy in.

Yeah and in those years their spare parts department really thrived ;) . Obviously you know the name was bought out a little while ago.

If I wasn't doing so much home renovation at this point while watching interest rates skyrocket, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Seems like a really great deal IMO compared to alternatives (EV/PHEV & ICE)

Would still keep one ICE for the best of both worlds.

morrisk:

Meanwhile the earth gets hotter

from what i understand methane is 20 times more potent than co2, has 80 times more warming power than co2 and in NZ accounts for 40% of all our greenhouse gas emissions ...

- first i googled methane greenhouse gas vs co2

- then i googled NZ methane emissions

Googling dont help the planet tho.

Stopping burning stuff does.

Also stopping eating meat and dairy.

Incredibly we can do all of that at the same time.

The MG of today has absolutely no connection to the MG of old apart from 2 initials.

ANglEAUT:

Before the 1TB mark, it was wise to always buy the biggest HDD you could afford. Same goes for batteries currently. I think it's worth it to stretch finances for the bigger battery

.....

Comparison of the high capacity EV battery to the size of the HDD storage is irrelevant and relevant at the same time.

It is unwise to keep all eggs in one bucket, I.e. Few bad sectors would render your 1TB HDD useless, while 4x 250GB HDDs would keep redundancy and business continuity in various applications. Hence above mentioned comparison is Irrelevant in that sense.
I bad cell in 62kWh battery would render it useless and you'll spend weeks or months trying to find replacement cell. I do have cases with that kind of disaster for 2 NZ owners of 40kWh ZE1 Leafs. Under that angle comparison with high capacity HDD is relevant but not in a positive way.

What developers had done with the "bad sector" issues? They introduced NAND memory where bad sectors can be identified and avoided. Unfortunately car manufacturers had been short-sighted and have not introduced similar kind of redundancy in EVs.
P.S. For those who still do not know: EV traction batteries are made from series of individual cells (blocks of cells) and those cells are never made identical. Hence their performance differ with time and number of charge-discharge cycles...
