Everyone else is calling it the RD6 so I guess before you “educate your friends” the Electric Viking should make sure his facts are correct.

My first thought was “Oh no, not another Chinese start up.” But then discovered Radar is owned by Geely who also own Polestar. So maybe they have a head start into EVs. If the RD6 really can do 600km, tow a decent amount (not for 600km) and/or carry a decent amount it will probably find a place on NZ roads.

In a similar vein, Ford have just trademarked the names Ranger Lightning, Ranger Thunder, Maverick Lightning and Maverick Thunder in various markets around the world. The conjecture is the “Lightning” is for BEV and the “Thunder” is for PHEV.

While the Maverick probably won’t make it to NZ, I hope the electrified Ranger does.

If you were an Australian EV enthusiast and had to deal with Australian politicians, you might be forgiven for lashing out.

Found this an interesting if somewhat illogical read:

I want to drive a Tesla, but I don’t want to be a Tesla driver. An EV beckons as our next new family car, but one good option is entirely off the table because I don’t want to be associated with the unhinged fanbase.

I totally agree with his views on the Tessla Fanboi Club - as useful as the NZ Tesla FB groups can be as a source of info and help, I'd concur that a significant minority of Tesla drivers are indeed somewhat unhinged in their level of dedication - but I équally think it's a bit of a pathetic reason not to buy a Tesla! Boycotting Tesla due to a dislike of Musk and his business practices would make more sense, but simply as you don't want to be tarred with the Tesla Fanboi brush is just dumb.

I liked this comment below the article:

You know a great way to improve the fan base is to join it. More sensible fans means fewer people will have a terrible first encounter with a Tesla fan.

Totally excited it's only 17 sleeps before I can pick up our Model Y (yep, just like my son counts down to his birthday!), but please feel free to shoot me if I start worshipping on the alter of the Church of Tesla...

I guess, but at least Elon Musk doesn't have journalists murdered with a bone saw or invade foreign countries. *shrug*

That we know of!

But whether such a boycott makes sense is a personal decision based on an individual's priorities/perspective on the man and his company's practices; that's a very different situation choosing to boycott Tesla due to a small but vocal minority of Tesla DRIVERS being tossers.

Don't be ridiculous. If Musk was going to off a journalist, he wouldn't use a bone saw. He'd fire them into the sun.

It's always hard to separate the man / country from the product.

Even in the 1970's, a small but vocal Americans were touting the fact they would only buy "American made" products, (even if they were crap).

But eventually most "American made" disappeared. Ironically this was most due to Republicans wanting an inexpensive, disposable and unsafe workforces, in particular Mexico.

Not you. The person introducing TVs and politics to the EV News thread.

People not wanting a particular EV because of the ‘vibe’ is valid.

It is possible to discuss the pluses and minuses of my EV with people without sounding like an EVangelist.

I wouldn't quite characterise it like that. When I observe Tesla owners it reinforces my impression that they are a niche product that is well appreciated by their target audience but not really an suitable proposition for more conservative buyers like me.

How much trolling through (in the original meaning of the word!) Tesla-specific FB groups or similar content/sites?

If the answer is 'little' or 'none' then I would suggest you have managed to avoid this side of the fandom - and that's not a bad thing, as a lot of it is closer to the rantings of religious/cult zealots than rational conversation, with the same aggressive resentment towards any that question the Word of the Lord.
