gzt: I really don't think Mazda intended to sell many of those anyway. Mazdas own anti-sales campaign for these was ridiculous.

I don't think they were making very many anyway. But it isn't a good start for them IMO to produce such a vehicle. It is quite interesting how slow the Japanese brands have been to adapt, even though Toyota has been producing hybrids for decades.

True, but it's amazing how people's association with the original country of origin of such brands can still dominate! The logic seems to be Polestar is owned by Volvo; Volvo come from Sweden; both are therefore Swedish cars.

I'm surprised at how many still aren't aware that MG is not a British company/brand.

I'd comfortably assume that much of the population still believes that JLR is British-owned...

Just this morning my FIL was surprised to hear that NZ Teslas are made in China... I'm sure that affected his sense of the brand's quality (whereas for me, I'm just relieved they're not from Freemont!),

That is why brand are so important. The history of Rover / MG is quite interesting. Sad that overseas countries seem to end up owning many of the good brands, buying them during fire sales. The same happened with F&P in NZ, when IMO the government could have helped during the last financial crisis, as they bailed out a few finance companies for billions.

I don't have an issue with things being made in China, but the quality can vary significantly. People maybe surprise at how much food in NZ supermarkets is now manufactured in China . Pams rice crackers for instance.

It's therefore been such a disappointment to see how slow Mazda have been, making Toyota's 'progress' seem relatively speedy: in the nearly 12 years since the Leaf was released, the over-priced and under-spec'd MX-30 is still their one and only option.

Japanese manufacturers generally have been so slow out of the gate; even Nissan, which had the potential of first mover advantage, has sat on its arse for so long - we're still waiting for the wide-scale release of its second EV. Thank god for Korea, with Hyundai/Kia at least having made an effort in this area, providing people with alternatives to high-priced Euro offerings, the tech-heavy Tesla (which won't suit lots of people), or Chinese owned/made brands (which also seems to put off quite a few). I know there's Polestar too, but they're going to remain niche until they have additional models.

My partner has a 2019 Mazda 6 wagon as a work vehicle and while it does look and feel like a nice vehicle, the infotainment is absolute trash. It seems to take a good minute for it to actually boot after starting the car, then it spends an eternity trying to reconnect to remembered bluetooth devices and if it can't, it then switches to the radio at full volume (because decent volume on BT is not the same on the radio, apparently). Navigating around it is a lagfest too. I also don't appreciate that when it does reconnect to bluetooth it triggers the phone to start playing - on iOS this is annoying because it will always play whatever is on Apple Music as that's the default for that OS if something else like Spotify isn't already running. Even if all my music was in Apple Music, I prefer to tell it when to start playing, not the moment it boots.

They had to replace our infotainment computer after all sorts of problems, on a 2015 model. The replacement has been fine after that, and it does still have the touchscreen. But the new ones don't even have a touchscreen. Well they do apparently on the new models such as a CX50, if you use Apple carplay. But the screen is tiny too, and positioned too far away to reach easily.

Autocar.co.nz: Opel announces NZ pricing for Mokka range

Opel New Zealand has recently announced pricing for its first model getting ready to hit our shores, the Mokka.

The German carmaker will introduce three variants of the new model including the fully electric Mokka-e SRi ... available for $69,990 plus on-road costs.

With a Clean Car Rebate of $8625 factored in, the price is brought down to $61,365 plus on-road costs.

The Mokka-e can achieve a range of 363km courtesy of a 50kWh battery sending its power to a 100kW/260Nm motor connected to the front wheels.

Each model can be reserved on the Opel New Zealand website for $100 with the first 100 customers ... with an invite to the brand’s launch event in November.

I looked when this video was posted, and it looks like a patch available. However it sounds like it's painful to patch, taking tens of hours to download. I didn't see a good indication how many problems fixed.

Great to have another EV on the market, especially one with in excess of 350km range & 100kW fast charging.

For some people their car buying decisions are perhaps less analytical than the the users of this forum, and they are simply after something that will meet their needs & appeal visually. For these people, the more EV's scattered around showrooms, the more likely they will end up with an EV.

From an analytical point of view, the Opel Mokka-E, it's closest match is it's Stellantis stablemate, the Peugeot e-208. While the latter dates back to 2019, but share's the same motor, battery pack and platform.

Given the e-208 is $6000 cheaper, and gets an extra 20km or rated range (assume the angular body of the Mokka-E induces more drag), I wouldn't expect the Mokka-E to sell in big volumes here. That said, it was going be a struggle to sell the Opel brand here, so I doubt they are expecting much sales.

Unfortunately yes it is ... Four years of daily driving it to the end of its range plus increasing frequency of DC charges with no thermal control have done ours in. It would probably be OK for the supermarket run if we lived in the burbs but we live on the top of a steep hill on SH1. It's not real happy about the prospect of going uphill at highway speed right now. Radio silence from EVs Enhanced is frustrating. I'm hanging onto it waiting for 16-blade. Is mid-August "late 2022" yet?

We're also in a similar situation and waiting for word on the 16 blade update availability. Put your question to EVs Enhanced on their twitter account so hopefully they'll reply.

If you include someone's twitter handle in your tweet then that person will be alerted to your tweet by twitter so will likely read it. Use @EVsEnhanced in this case.

Yeah tell me about it - my 2013 Leaf (with lizard battery) was fun for about 4y but by the time I traded it in early 2022 it was a pain having only ~60% SOH on the weekend when we want to do lots of little trips around the city in a single day for various chores. Got a 30 kwh Leaf for ~13k after accounting for rebate/trade in price, and got a fresher battery and slightly higher spec car (e.g. bird eye camera) which I thought was worthwhile after giving up waiting for replacement battery options.
