everettpsycho: MG did a launch there to confirm it's coming but still lacks details for the MG4 with a avague "second half of 2023", NZ won't get all models and no pricing. They are however fast tracking the 72kWh version of the MG ZS that will land mid year at around $65k.

The ability to run V2L from the Type 2 connector on the MG would have to be a bonus, too.
I've only heard about this recently, does anyone know what other EV's available in NZ can do it?
I don't think my LDV EV80 offers it because I don't see any option come up on the dash - or maybe the option only appears when you plug a discharge cable into the port?
BYD Atto 3, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 all have V2L. That is actually one thing I am sorry that my Model Y doesn't have.

Perhaps Elon will deign to offer a retrofit at some point. I would definitely pay for it.

SaltyNZ:That would be a direct conflict with the Powerwall so I don't see it being on his list of upgrades.

I take your point, but I don't think it's necessarily a direct conflict at all.
They are similar in some ways, but not the same. If you have a Powerwall, maybe you wouldn't retrofit your car. But equally as such you might still appreciate the feature in your car even if you have a Powerwall, because the Powerwall doesn't fit in the boot of your car. You can't take the Powerwall camping.
On the other hand, the fact that we will have V2L in our other car (once it gets back from being fixed, anyway) was not a factor in our decision not to get batteries to go with our solar. We didn't even have a V2L-capable car at the time. The only factor was that the batteries were simply too expensive for it to be worth it. Using V2L is nice in an emergency, but having batteries wired into the solar is much more convenient than running a bunch of extension cables out of the garage and into the house. And it works all the time, not just in an emergency.
In short, yeah, kind of, but not really.

SaltyNZ:A Powerwall 2 has 13.5kWh capacity with continuous discharge ability of 5kW. Far more capacity available from a Model 3 or Y so enabling V2L would potentially be a convenient DIY approach as a surrogate V2H which would negate the need for a Powerwall at no extra cost to the car owner.

Tesla probably has V2H/V2G capabilities built in but not for the benefit of the car owner in 'Powerwall' usage so much as providing the potential for Tesla to use their customers' collective cars' storage capacity in a virtual power station (VPS) type scenario. For Tesla/Musk the answer is usually found in following the $s and playing the energy markets by way of a VPS would seem to be a tempting opportunity in that regard.

At the recent investors day, V2L/G was discussed with the powertrain team who said it should be coming to new Tesla vehicles within the next two years. Elon's response showed that he didn't quite understand why people would want it but it seems like the team is already planning it.

I watched the video from Technology Connection (on his other channel Technology Connextras) where he tests running his freezer, fridge, laptop and internet router from his Ioniq 5 and also makes a meal. In 24 hours he dropped 12%.
*quick hunt*
He talks about the usefulness of having the ability to get through a power outage without needing to own a generator, quite interesting.
There were quite a few postings on the BYD Atto3 FB page where people used the V2L feature to run key appliances in their houses during the power blackouts in Auckland arising from the storms. They just ran long cables from the car into the house into a power bar. Most people had the right priorities - one for the freezer and one for the ONT and router!
Though I have the Atto3 and the V2L cable I have never used it but it's good to know it's there should there be an extended power outage. At least I won't lose my frozen food.

The mg zs looked quite good too. Good space. No gymics. Long range. Just works.
What is the regen braking like in the MG? The regen braking in the Atto3 is pretty gentle so there is no one-pedal driving mode which I would have liked.
