What stores would M3 owners recommend for Tesla accessories?

I’m looking for that sweet spot of good quality at a decent price, rather than the finest products money can buy.

Taptes.com seems to offer that balance, eg their mats seem to be an acceptable knock-off of the 3DMaxpider ones, but I’m also thinking that AliExpress will be fine for some of the items as well.

I recall Tessories being recommended by some here and will certainly look to them, being NZ based, but I noticed many products aren’t in stock; hopefully they’ll also start stocking Y-specific products once the car is available here.

In regards to a tyre repair kit/inflator - what would people recommend for this? (Model and store.) We’re planning a decently long SI trip at the end of the year, and if we have a Y or other EV by then, this lack of a spare tyre is something that has me slightly worried. We’ve not bothered with our Leaf, but given that can do less than 100km it’s not really an issue!

Currently, this is rest of my list (from highest to lower priority) - anything important that I’m missing?

  • Screen protector
  • Roof sunshade cover
  • Rear trunk privacy cover (if it doesn’t come with one)
  • RHD interior mats
  • Trunk and frunk mats
  • Jack pads
  • SSD
  • Glasses holder
  • Centre console storage box
  • 2nd row organiser (messy kids! May also go for the back-of-seat covers)
  • Cup holder liner
  • Under seat storage
  • Wheel caps (if I take the covers off the basic wheels)

I'd try something like this for your tyres. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/tools-repair-kits/other/listing/3543023664?bof=7eIzrcoE

I bought a set of mud flaps off Aliexpress.  (Not for a Tesla) They were cheap about $24 delivered and about 1/6 of what the local price was from the dealer. I didn't hold high hopes for the quality, but they were very good and an excellent fit. I wouldn't hesitate to buy similar stuff from there again.

I bought a nice set of mats off Rubbertree, much better than the thin ones that come with the car. They have other similar accessories there too (e.g. boot liners) although I had already bought the Tesla rubber boot liner and front roof shade.

I have bought a mix of accessories from Tessories and various AliExpress vendors.

Some of the bigger stuff, a boot mat, aero cover bag, mudflaps, screen protector and hub covers from Tessories. I don’t mind paying them a bit extra to get it by courier within 2 days and ensure there is less chance of it being damaged in transit. And rewarding someone local who has taken the initiative and imported the stuff.

Delivery times from China seem to have improved. The last couple of packages arriving within 2 weeks but I’m not sure the impact the Shanghai lockdown may have.

The mats that came with the car seem adequate enough for me. I won’t be replacing them any time soon.

I got a windscreen sunshade that is a perfect fit, rather than the concertina one I used in my previous car. The downside of it though is, it folds up like one of those beach shelters and fits into a small pouch, except it’s really difficult to get it to fold up small enough! I guess I’ll get better at it.

The centre console storage trays I got mean I don’t even use the glovebox. Make sure you get the lined ones though to reduce rattles.

The great thing about the Model 3/Y is it’s a bit like the iPhone. Because of their ubiquity there are lots of third party accessories available. As a long time Android user, a major limitation has always been the paucity of accessories. I do wish Tesla would offer a certification process for some accessories, particularly ones that require integration with the car’s systems.

Oh, and on the tire front. I got a puncture repair kit from Supercheap Auto (designed for 4WDs, but whatever) and a battery powered inflator. The inflator will supposedly do 4 tires and recharges via USB, but I have a foot pump that will come with me to more remote areas. I wasn’t confident in the inflators that connect to the car accessory system.

I steered clear of the puncture repair kits that put ‘goo’ into the tire. I was concerned it would interfere with the TPMS sensor and also I believe the tires have internal foam to reduce road noise which will stop the goo getting to the puncture site.

And if you’re close to a service centre they will supposedly bring a wheel to you if yours isn’t repairable.

I don’t have a jack yet. The difficulty is getting one that is low enough to fit under the car with a completely flat tire and the jacking puck in place.

Cut yourself 2-3 appropriately sized pieces of thick plywood, about the size of a dinner plate, then screw them together to make a thicker block. Place on the ground in front of flat tyre, then drive forward on to the block.

Lifts the vehicle up and you no longer need a low profile jack.

Yes, already have a 12x2 offcut with a bevel on one edge. I really need to do some calculations on just what the gap below the puck will be when the tire is flat. A 45mm lift may not be enough. I looked at a scissor jack at Supercheap. At a minimum I would need to remove the rail adapter that most cars use, off the top of it.

Man, who would have thought that a flat tyre would cause this much hassle in 2022?!

It looks like a Y has nearly 3cm greater ground clearance than a 3, but it sounds safer to wait until (if?) I get the car to sort out the details like a jack or other means.

How well equipped is AA to handle the specific needs of EVs, eg do they carry suitable jacks and pads? I get that there's Tesla's own roadside assistance but I note that limits transporting for a flat to 80km, which in the boondocks may not be enough. (Again, why having stuff on-board would be safest.)

Thanks for all the other tips and advice. I'm possibly going OTT with accessories, but I also think it's worth investing a bit up-front to keep the car in decent condition: my boys aren't the cleanest things on the planet, so robust mats, back-of-seat protectors, storage bins etc help minimise collateral damage.

@Dingbatt, would you mind either posting or DMing me the links to the windscreen sunshade (noting it'll fit a 3 not Y) and centre console storage trays you bought? Thanks heaps.

I keep a set of jack pads in the boot. TBH, I don't think Tesla's jacking requirements are overly different from other cars - they all have specific spots you need to jack them or risk damage.

Lots of vehicles don’t seem to carry them anymore. The mindset comes from countries with much better roadside assistance I think.

My son works at a place (in Auckland) where lots of the clients have Teslas. When one had a flat tire they called the AA. When the AA arrived they said “you’ll need to call Tesla”. So that may answer the question about the AA.

I’ve sent you a PM. Let me know if the images are available or not.

Yeah no production early in the Q means no cars for us, they could make some later when they restart but we'll have to see how long it goes on for

When I look at the build date of my car and when I took delivery I would suggest people’s provisional delivery dates of late May/early June might be toast. Unless they’re already on the boat of course.

I assume Shanghai is the only Giga that does RHD, so Berlin, Austin and Fremont wouldn’t be able to help.

Fremont could do RHD again since that's where the first two years of deliveries came from...but I would be surprised if they did. Berlin is only setup for Model Y at the moment and we still don't know if it will be making RHD Model Y for the UK yet.

Just going to be a matter of waiting, unfortunately.
